Kalev Infantry Battalion
The Kalev Infantry Battalion () is an infantry battalion of the Estonian Land Forces. It is a part of the 1st Infantry Brigade (Estonia), 1st Infantry Brigade and its primary task is to train conscription-based mechanized infantry units. The battalion has been previously known as the Kalevlaste Maleva and as the Kalev Single Infantry Battalion. The battalion is currently based at Jõhvi. History 1918–1940 Formed as ''Kalevlaste Malev (military unit), Malev'' in the beginning of the Estonian War of Independence on 20 December 1918, the battalion was named after the multi-sport club Kalev Tallinn, Kalev, whose members founded the unit. The battalion fought in the Estonian War of Independence on the Eastern front against Soviet Russia and in Latvia against the ''Baltische Landeswehr''. Mechanized Infantry
Mechanized infantry are infantry units equipped with Armoured personnel carrier, armored personnel carriers (APCs) or infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) for transport and combat (see also armoured corps). Leopold Tõnson
Leopold Tõnson (13 January 1878, in Paldiski (or 14 January 1874, in Haapsalu) – 5 January 1935, in Tallinn) was an Estonian military personnel and sport personnel. He was one of the first in Estonia who started to propagate athletics, rowing and bandy. In 1909 he managed the first athletics competition in Tallinn; he himself won this competition. During the Estonian War of Independence, he was the commander of Kalev Infantry Battalion. From 1911 to 1913, 1918 to 1919, 1922 and 1924 to 1928 he was the head of Estonian Sports Association Kalev. The Viru Infantry Battalion () is a battalion of the Estonian Land Forces. It is a part of the 1st Infantry Brigade and its primary task is to train conscription-based infantry and anti-tank units. The battalion has been previously known as the 4th Infantry Regiment and as the 4th Single Infantry Battalion. The battalion is currently based at Jõhvi. History Formation On 6 December 1917, Lieutenant colonel Jaan Soots, acting commander of the 1st Division, ordered Captain Hendrik Vahtramäe to form the 4th Infantry Regiment () in Rakvere. Following the occupation of Estonia by the German Empire, the 4th Infantry Regiment was disbanded on 5 April 1918. Sisu XA-180
The Patria Pasi (earlier known as the Sisu Pasi) is a Finnish-made six-wheeled armoured personnel carrier (APC) originally designed for Finnish Defence Forces. The first variant was produced in 1983, and serial production began in 1984. It was designed to operate with ease of use, simple structure and low-cost maintenance. The basic appearance and configuration of the Pasi is similar to most other wheeled APCs. The XA-180 and XA-185 are fully amphibious, while other variants are not. Development In 1980, Sisu produced an XA-180 prototype for Finnish Army tests. It competed against two other prototypes and was declared the winner of the trials in 1983. The Scouts Battalion () is a battalion of the Estonian Land Forces. It is a part of the 1st Infantry Brigade and acts as its rapid response unit. The battalion is currently based at Tapa. History Estonian War of Independence In November 1918, Estonian American entrepreneur and scouting enthusiast Henry Reissar returned to Estonia and turned to the Ministry of Defence (then Ministry of War) with a proposition of forming a voluntary military unit, financed by himself, in order to help defend Estonia. The BRDM-2 (''Boyevaya Razvedyvatelnaya Dozornaya Mashina'', Боевая Разведывательная Дозорная Машина, literally "Combat Reconnaissance/Patrol Vehicle") is an amphibious armoured scout car designed and developed in the Soviet Union. BTR-80
The BTR-80 () is an 8×8 wheeled Amphibious vehicle, amphibious armoured personnel carrier (APC) designed in the Soviet Union. It was adopted in 1985 and replaced the previous vehicles, the BTR-60 and BTR-70, in the Soviet Army. It was first deployed during the Soviet–Afghan War.
