Leo Stern (historian)
Jonas Leib "Leo" Stern (26 March 1901 - 2 January 1982) was an Austrian- German left-wing political activist. In 1933 he switched his party membership from the Social Democratic Party to the Communist Party. During the fascist ascendancy he participated in the Spanish Civil War as an anti-Franco Interbrigadist and later, in the Great Patriotic War, served as an officer in the Soviet Red Army. Between the two he studied successfully for a higher degree at the University of Moscow, receiving his Habilitation degree in 1940 in return for a dissertation of Contemporary Catholicism. Emerging from the war in 1945, almost certainly by now closely networked with members of Soviet military intelligence, and more committed than ever to Soviet-style communism, he made his home in occupied Vienna where he taught at the university. Voloka ( uk, Волока; ro, Voloca pe Derelui or ''Voloca'') is a village in Chernivtsi Raion, Chernivtsi Oblast, Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Voloka rural hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. The current population of the village is 3,035 (3,028 at the time of the 2001 Ukrainian census). Most inhabitants are Romanians and they are almost exclusively engaged in the creation of bridal gowns, a business that has proved quite successful in the past decade, as the village has managed to make a name for itself in almost all of Ukraine and Russia as well as Romania. Henrik Eberle
Henrik Eberle (born 3 May 1970) is a German historian. During the first decade of the twenty-first century he came to prominence beyond the confines of the German academic community with compilations, books, articles and interviews concerned with Adolf Hitler. Some of these have been translated into English. Life Henrik Eberle was born in Karl-Marx-Stadt (as Chemnitz was known between 1953 and 1990). His father was an engineer and his mother was a pharmacist. Eberle studied history at Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, receiving his doctorate for a substantial work on the Martin Luther University under Naziism (''"Die Martin-Luther-Universität in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus"'') which was published as a book in 2002. Ilko-Sascha Kowalczuk
Ilko-Sascha Kowalczuk (born 1967) is a German historian and author. His work is focused on the German Democratic Republic and its Ministry for State Security (The Stasi). Career Kowalczuk trained initially as a mason, and then worked as a janitor. In 1990 he began his study of history at the Humboldt University of Berlin, receiving his doctorate from nearby Potsdam University in 2002. Since 1990 Kowalczuk has been a member of the "Independent Historians' League" (''"Unabhängige Historiker Verband"''). Between 1995 and 1998 he served as an "honorary expert member" on the Commission set up by the German Bundestag to try to resolve some of the open questions left over from the single-party dictatorship that had, till 1990, been the German Democratic Republic. A rector (Latin for 'ruler') is a senior official in an educational institution, and can refer to an official in either a university or a secondary school.
