Karel Zich
Karel Zich (10 June 1949 – 13 July 2004) was a Czech singer, guitarist and composer whose voice was often compared with that of Elvis Presley. Life Karel Zich was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, into a musical family. His grandfather was Otakar Zich, composer and professor of music aesthetics, and his uncle was the composer Jaroslav Zich. Karel attended the Prague State Conservatory (''Státní konzervatoř Praha'') for three years and later graduated from Charles University in sociology. Between 1964 and 1965 he performed with the band ''Framus'' as a singer. In 1968 Zich joined ''Spirituál kvintet'' and stayed with them until 1973. His main interest was in rock'n'roll, and he is sometimes called the "Czech Elvis". After his successes in the Czech pop scene with various bands, Zich decided to start his solo career. Karel Svoboda (composer)
Karel Svoboda (19 December 1938 – 28 January 2007) was a Czech composer of popular music. He wrote music for many TV series in the 1970s. Works Karel Svoboda was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia and began his career as a pop composer after abandoning medicine in his third year of university. He became a member of the rock band "Mefisto" in 1963 where he played piano. Later, he composed music for the ''Laterna Magica'' theatre in Prague and for many Czech singers. In 1969 he wrote ''Lady Carneval'' for Karel Gott, a major Czech pop star. Svoboda wrote a total of 80 songs for Gott. Svoboda composed TV scores for the German channel ZDF for over 30 years. He wrote the scores to many TV series in the 1970s that a whole generation of Europeans grew up with. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Bratislavská lýra was a Czechoslovak festival of popular songs that took place every year from 1966 until 1990 and was held in Bratislava. It was renewed in 1997 but cancelled again in 1998. History The idea for the festival arose between 1964 and 1965 by composers Ján Siváček and Pavel Zelenay, who went on to organize it. The event was first held in 1966 in the Park kultúry a oddychu (PKO), under the name ''Medzinárodný festival tanečnej piesne Bratislavská lýra'' ("Bratislava Lýra International Dance Song Festival"), with sound provided by Slovenský rozhlas (later Česko-slovenský rozhlas). Wanda Jackson
Wanda LaVonne Jackson (born October 20, 1937) is an American singer and songwriter. Since the 1950s, she has recorded and released music in the genres of rock, country and gospel. She was among the first women to have a career in rock and roll, recording a series of 1950s singles that helped give her the nickname "The Queen of Rockabilly". She is also counted among the first female stars in the genre of country music. Jackson began performing as a child and later had her own radio show in Oklahoma City. She was then discovered by country singer Hank Thompson, who helped her secure a recording contract with Decca Records in 1954. At Decca, Jackson had her first hit single with the country song "You Can't Have My Love". She then began touring the following year with Elvis Presley. Zlatý slavík ( en, Golden Nightingale) was a music poll and an award of the same name established by magazine ''Mladý svět'' along with '' Smena na nedeľu'' in 1962, and broadcast on television. While in the first year of the poll 797 votes were returned, the highest vote tally registered in its 29-year history was over 115,000. It later emerged that from the 1970s onwards the entries were frequently falsified by the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ). The poll lasted until 1991 and was later replaced by Český slavík.
