Jan Maszkowski
Jan Kanty Ignacy Maszkowski (1794–1865) was a Polish painter; known for portraits, history and genre paintings. Life and work He displayed artistic skills from an early age. A local landowner named Jozef Levitzky took note and helped him enroll in the School of Drawing at the University of Lviv, where he studied from 1813 to 1818, under the pastellist, Józef Buisset (1776-1832). He then spent three years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. His primary instructors there were Heinrich Füger and Johann Baptist von Lampi. This was followed by studies in Rome, at the Accademia di San Luca, While there, he also visited Naples, Florence and Venice. In 1824 his patron, Levitzky, demanded that he return home, which he did, after a brief stay in Vienna. Once there, he focused on painting portraits and genre scenes in Volhynia and Podolia, and had his own workshop in Dubno. From 1834 to 1843, he taught drawing at his alma mater, the university. Karol Antoni Maszkowski, later known as Karol Zyndram Maszkowski (26 May 1868, Lwów - 24 March 1938, Warsaw) was a Polish painter, poster designer, and stained glass artist. Biography His father , was a mathematician who lectured and served as a Rector at Lwów Polytechnic. His mother, Marica, née Ferrero, was from Italy. In 1886, after his father's death, he moved to Kraków, where he studied medicine at the Jagiellonian University. After a year, he also began to study painting at the School of Fine Arts. After graduating, he travelled; to Vienna, Venice and Munich, where he took lessons from Ludwig von Löfftz. He also spent some time studying decorative painting at the Gwoździec Synagogue. When he returned to Kraków, he was an assistant to Jan Matejko at St. Mary's Basilica. Count Stanisław Tarnowski (7 November 1837 – 31 December 1917) was a Polish nobleman (''szlachcic''), historian, literary critic and publicist. Life He was born on 7 November 1837 and hailed from an aristocratic family. His father was Jan Bogdan and mother Gabriela ''née'' Małachowska. He had two brothers: Jan and Juliusz. He attended St. Anne Gymnasium between 1850–1854 and later studied law and philology at the Jagiellonian University (1855–1858). Henryk Hipolit Rodakowski (; 1823–1894) was a Polish painter. Biography He came from a well-known family of lawyers. Continuing the family tradition between 1841 and 1845, he studied law in Vienna. Later he studied painting under Joseph Danhauser (1805–1845) and Franz Eybl (1806–1880). In the years 1846 to 1867 he lived in Paris, where he continued his studies with Léon Cogniet. In 1852 he experienced his first major success by painting a portrait of General Henryk Dembiński, which won the first prize. His studio was visited by the famous painter Eugène Delacroix. In 1861 he married the love of his youth, Kamila Blühdorn, née von Salzgeber, with whom he had two children. Feliks Jan Szczęsny Morawski
Feliks Jan Szczęsny Morawski (15 May 1818, in Rzeszów – 10 April 1898, in Stary Sącz) was a Polish historian, writer, painter and ethnographer. Biography He studied painting with Jan Maszkowski in Lwów. Then, from 1839 to 1841, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. After returning to Lwów, he was appointed Curator of the art collections at the Ossolineum. During this time, he travelled throughout Galicia, drawing historical sites and objects. Later, he painted portraits and genre scenes, as well as some religious works. This included a depiction of the Holy Trinity at the in Rzeszów.
