Jessica Wetterling (born 1 December 1986) is a Swedish politician from the Left Party, who has been a member of the Riksdag from Västra Götaland County West since 2018. The Riksdag (, ; also sv, riksdagen or ''Sveriges riksdag'' ) is the legislature and the Parliamentary sovereignty, supreme decision-making body of Sweden. Västra Götaland County West (Riksdag Constituency)
Västra Götaland County West ( sv, Västra Götalands Läns Västra) is one of the 29 multi-member constituencies of the Riksdag, the national legislature of Sweden. The constituency was established as Gothenburg and Bohus County in 1970 when the Riksdag changed from a bicameral legislature to a unicameral legislature. It was renamed Bohus County in 1973. It was renamed Västra Götaland County West in 1998 when the counties of Älvsborg, Gothenburg and Bohus and Skaraborg were merged to create Västra Götaland. The constituency currently consists of the municipalities of Ale, Alingsås, Härryda, Kungälv, Lerum, Lilla Edet, Mölndal, Öckerö, Partille, Stenungsund and Tjörn. The constituency currently elects 11 of the 349 members of the Riksdag using the open party-list proportional representation electoral system. Left Party (Sweden)
The Left Party ( sv, Vänsterpartiet ; V) is a socialist political party in Sweden. On economic issues, the party opposes privatizations and advocates increased public expenditure. In foreign policy, the party is Eurosceptic, being opposed to the European Union, NATO, and Swedish entry into the eurozone. It attempted to get Sweden to join the Non-Aligned Movement in 1980, but did not succeed. The party is eco-socialist, and also supports anti-racism, feminism, and republicanism. It is placed on the left-wing of the political spectrum. The party has never been part of a government at the national level, though it has lended parliamentary support to the Swedish Social Democratic Party-led government in the Riksdag. 2018 Swedish General Election
General elections were held in Sweden on 9 September 2018 to elect the 349 members of the Riksdag. Regional and municipal elections were also held on the same day. The incumbent minority government, consisting of the Social Democrats and the Greens and supported by the Left Party, won 144 seats, one seat more than the four-party Alliance coalition, with the Sweden Democrats winning the remaining 62 seats. The Social Democrats' vote share fell to 28.3 percent, its lowest level of support since 1911. The main opposition, the Moderates, lost even more support. The Sweden Democrats made gains, though less than anticipated. Regardless, the party became the largest in two constituencies in southern region Scania and topped the polls in 21 out of 33 Scanian municipalities and in 31 out of 290 municipalities overall.
