International Citizen Service
International Citizen Service (ICS) is a global volunteering programme. It is aimed at young people aged 18-35 and supports them on 12-week long sustainable and locally-owned volunteering placements focused on working towards the Sustainable Development Goals. ICS works with projects that have specifically requested help, with emphasis placed on measures that combat poverty. Funded by the Department for International Development, ICS is led by VSO, in partnership with a number of development organisations. Prime Minister David Cameron has said the program was inspired by the Peace Corps. The forerunner programme to ICS was Platform2, which was initiated under the previous Labour government. ICS and ICS Entrepreneur are led by VSO in partnership with a group of development organisations. Department For International Development
The Department for International Development (DFID) was a department of HM Government responsible for administering foreign aid from 1997 to 2020. The goal of the department was "to promote sustainable development and eliminate world poverty". DFID was headed by the United Kingdom's Secretary of State for International Development. The position was last held between 13 February 2020 and the department's abolishment on 2 September 2020 by Anne-Marie Trevelyan. In a 2010 report by the Development Assistance Committee (DAC), DFID was described as "an international development leader in times of global crisis". Voluntary Service Overseas
Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) is a not-for-profit international development organization charity with a vision for "a fair world for everyone" and a mission to "create lasting change through volunteering". Platform2 was an international volunteering programme for young people in the United Kingdom. It was run by a coalition of Christian Aid and BUNAC, and was funded by the Department for International Development of the UK government. Volunteers took part in 10-week community projects in countries such as South Africa, Ghana, India, Nepal and Peru. What was Platform2? Platform2 was an international volunteering scheme for 18- to 25-year-olds from the UK who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford to visit a developing country and get involved with global issues of justice and poverty. Raleigh International
Raleigh International is a youth expedition organisation based in the UK. On 19 May 2022 Raleigh International Trust ceased operations and entered Creditors' Voluntary Liquidation. The Raleigh International brand was bought by Impact Travel Group on 11th July 2022 and will be relaunching with new expeditions in 2023. They work in remote, rural areas to improve access to safe water and sanitation, build community resilience, sustainably manage natural resources, and to protect vulnerable environments. Restless Development
Restless Development (formerly known as Students Partnership Worldwide) is a non-governmental organization which organizes volunteer placements for young people in the areas of civic participation, livelihoods and employment, sexual rights, and leadership. It operates in 74 countries in Africa and Asia, as well as the United States and United Kingdom. History Restless Development was founded as Students Partnership Worldwide in 1985 by Jim Cogan, the Deputy Head of Westminster School. It was originally a gap year programme for school leavers from Westminster School to work as teachers in India or Zimbabwe.
