''Hyperion'' is the second EP by the American black metal band Krallice. It was released on January 1, 2016. The music had originally been recorded in July 2013 for a Split album, split release that never materialised. Musical style and writing The music critic Greg Majewski noted the importance of the EP's recording date of July 2013. "The three songs which comprise its 23 minutes act as a virtual bridge between the thematic repetition of 2012’s ''Years Past Matter'' and ''Ygg huur, Ygg Huur''’s brisker, compact approach. Krallice
Krallice is an American black metal band from the Woodhaven, Queens neighborhood of New York City. Formed in 2007 by musicians Colin Marston and Mick Barr, they play an experimental metal, experimental, highly technical style of black metal. In 2008, the band added bassist Nick McMaster and drummer Lev Weinstein. The band has released fifteen studio albums and three EPs, most recently the LP ''Inorganic Rites'' on July 5, 2024. They have been described as "one of the most interesting, engaging black metal bands to emerge in recent years" and "one of the most important bands in modern black metal". Black metal is an extreme metal, extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. Progressive Metal
Progressive metal (often shortened to prog metal) is a broad fusion music genre melding heavy metal music, heavy metal and progressive rock, combining the loud "aggression" and amplified electric guitar, guitar-driven sound of the former with the more experimental, cerebral or quasi-classical compositions of the latter. Ygg Huur
''Ygg huur'' is the fifth studio album by the American black metal band Krallice. The album was recorded between July 4 and 8 at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves Studio and was self-released digitally by the band on July 30, 2015, with physical versions released in September. The album received widespread critical acclaim for its dense, complex songwriting and unique sound, featuring on a number of end-of-year lists by music publications. Musical style and writing Ygg huur has a highly technical, dense and complex style of metal, that has been described as "ranchingout kaleidoscopically, intricate riffs alternate frantically, from insanely fast tremolos to dissonant squeals, and rhythms float and bounce spastically without any anchors". A split album (or split) is a music album that includes tracks by two or more separate artists. ''Years Past Matter'' is the fourth studio album by the American black metal band Krallice. It was self-released by the band as a limited edition CD on August 25, 2012. A vinyl version of the album was subsequently released by Gilead Media on March 19, 2013. Musical style ''Years Past Matter'' adopts the "progressive black metal" style of their previous albums. The vocalists, Mick Barr and Nicolas McMaster, "approach their screams with equal gusto but very different tones." The basslines of McMaster were also described as "essential to the overall effect as the guitars." According to Pitchfork's writer Grayson Currin, the album's second track, "IIIIIIII", has "a rhythmic momentum written into the guitar lines when the fuselage of drums pauses for about 15 seconds." Gorguts is a Canadian death metal band formed near Sherbrooke, Quebec, in 1989. The band has gone through various membership changes since its inception; its only constant member has been guitarist-vocalist and co-founding member Luc Lemay, who remains the driving force of the band.
