Hirschy Zarchi
Hirschy Zarchi is an American rabbi and ''Shaliach (Chabad), shaliach'' for the Chabad Hasidic Jewish movement. Since 1997, he has been the founder and head of the Chabad house at Harvard University, one of the largest Chabad campus operations in the United States. He is also Jewish chaplain for students and alumni of Harvard. Biography Zarchi was born in Crown Heights, Brooklyn in 1973. Zarchi graduated from Oholei Torah and Rabbinical College of America yeshivas and received rabbinical ordination from Central Lubavitch Yeshiva in 1994. Zarchi was dispatched as a ''Shaliach (Chabad), shaliach'' for the Chabad Hasidic Jewish movement to Boston in the 1990s. Initially, he was based in Harvard Square, encouraging Jewish men to put on ''tefillin''. In 1997, he married Elkie, and later that year they established a Chabad house at Harvard University. Shaliach (Chabad)
Chabad, also known as Lubavitch, Habad and Chabad-Lubavitch (; ; ), is a Hasidic dynasty, dynasty in Hasidic Judaism. Belonging to the Haredi Judaism, Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) branch of Orthodox Judaism, it is one of the world's best-known Hasidic movements, as well as one of the largest Jewish religious organizations. 2023 United States Congress Hearings On Antisemitism
On December 5, 2023, the United States House Committee on Education and the Workforce held a hearing on antisemitism on college campuses. The committee called a few university leaders to testify, including the presidents of Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the widely televised hearing, the presidents answered questions about their schools' policies, including those on antisemitism. After the hearing, the committee called for the resignation of the presidents, and announced a Congressional investigation "with the full force of subpoena power" into the same issues. Claudine Gay (born August 4, 1970) is an American political scientist who is the Wilbur A. Cowett Professor of Government and of African and African-American Studies at Harvard University. Her research focuses on American political behavior, including voter turnout and politics of race and identity. Gay served as the dean of Social Sciences at Harvard from 2015 to 2018, as the dean of the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences from 2018 to 2023, and as the 30th president of Harvard University from July 2023 to January 2024. Widener Library
The Harry Elkins Widener Memorial Library, housing some 3.5million books, is the centerpiece of the Harvard Library system. It honors 1907 Harvard College graduate and book collector Harry Elkins Widener, and was built by his mother Eleanor Elkins Widener soon after his death in the sinking of the Titanic, sinking of the ''Titanic'' in 1912. Hanukkah (, ; ''Ḥănukkā'' ) is a Jewish holidays, Jewish festival commemorating the recovery of Jerusalem and subsequent rededication of the Second Temple at the beginning of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the 2nd century BCE.
