Gary Locke
Gary Faye Locke (born January 21, 1950) is an American politician and diplomat serving as the interim president of Bellevue College, the largest of the institutions that make up the Washington Community and Technical Colleges system. Locke served as the 21st governor of Washington (1997–2005), the 5th King County Executive (1994–1997), the 10th United States ambassador to China (2011–2014), and the United States Secretary of Commerce (2009–2011). Locke is the first Chinese American governor as well as the first Asian American governor in the continental United States. He was also the first Chinese American to serve as U.S. ambassador to China. Bellevue College (BC) is a public college in Bellevue, Washington, United States. It is the largest of the 34 institutions that make up the Washington Community and Technical Colleges system and the third-largest institution of higher education overall in the state (behind the University of Washington and Washington State University). The institution offers transfer associate degree programs that cover the first two years of a college education, bachelor's degree programs, professional-technical degrees and certificates, a large continuing education program, and pre-college programs. Washington's 37th Legislative District
Washington's 37th legislative district is one of forty-nine districts in Washington state for representation in the state legislature. The district encompasses Beacon Hill, Central District, Rainier Valley, Columbia City, Rainier Beach, and Renton. The district's legislators are state senator Rebecca Saldaña and state representatives Sharon Tomiko Santos (position 1) and Kirsten Harris-Talley (position 2), all Democrats. On December 12, 2016, Rebecca Saldaña was selected to fill Pramila Jayapal's seat in the senate over Rory O'Sullivan and Shasti Conrad following a special appointment by the King County Council. Washington Community And Technical Colleges
The Washington Community and Technical Colleges system consists of 34 public, two-year institutions of higher education which specialize in vocational, technical, worker retraining, and university transfer programs. Most of the member colleges award associate degrees and certificates, although some also offer specialized bachelor degrees. The largest college of the 34 state-assisted institutions is Bellevue College. The Washington State Community College system was first established by the Community College Act of 1967. The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, along with administering the Community and Technical College Act, provides the member colleges with leadership and information technology services.
