Garo People
The Garo is a Tibeto-Burman ethnic tribal group from the Indian subcontinent, living mostly in the Indian states of Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, and Nagaland, and in neighbouring areas of Bangladesh, including Madhupur, Mymensingh, Haluaghat, Dhobaura, Durgapur, Kolmakanda, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Jhinaigati, Nalitabari, Gazini Hills Madhyanagar, Bakshiganj and Sribardi. Historically, the name Garo was used for wide range of inhabitants in southern bank of Brahmaputra but now refers to those who call themselves A•chik Mande (literally " hill people," from ''A•chik'' "bite soil" + ''mande'' "people") or simply A•chik or Mande and the name "Garo" is now being used by outsiders as an exonym. They are the second-largest tribe in Meghalaya after the Khasi and comprise about a third of the local population. Garo National Council
The Garo National Council is a political party in Meghalaya in northeastern India which campaigns for the creation a new Indian state to be called Garoland, for the people of the Garo Hills. Founded in February 1946 as the Garo National Conference, Moody K Marak was the first President. In 1948 the organisation was renamed the Garo National Council. The GNC was a founding member of the All Party Hill Leaders Conference The All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) was a political party of the Indian state of Meghalaya. Garo Baptist Convention is a Baptist Christian denomination of India and Bangladesh. It is named after the ethnic group of the name Garo. Most members of this church are in Meghalaya. Garo (magazine)
was a monthly manga anthology magazine in Japan, founded by Katsuichi Nagai and published by Seirindō from 1964 until 2002. It was fundamental for the emergence and development of alternative and avant-garde manga. History Katsuichi Nagai founded ''Garo'' in July 1964 in order to publish the work of ''gekiga'' artists who didn't want to work for mainstream manga magazines after the demise of the rental book industry ( ''kashihon''). The magazine offered artists artistic freedom, but didn't pay them any salaries. Nagai particularly wanted to promote Marxist ''gekiga'' artist Sanpei Shirato's work, naming the magazine after one of Shirato's ninja characters. The first series published in ''Garo'' was Shirato's drama ''Kamui'' explored themes of class struggle and anti-authoritarianism around a Burakumin ninja boy with an Ainu name. ''The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask'' is a 2000 action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64 home console.
