GFG Alliance (long name Gupta Family Group Alliance), usually referred to as GFG, is an international group of businesses associated with businessman Sanjeev Gupta and the British Gupta family. , the companies in the group are Liberty Steel Group, Alvance Aluminium Group, and SIMEC, which develops and produces renewable energy. Tahmoor, New South Wales
Tahmoor is a small town in the Macarthur Region of New South Wales, Australia, in Wollondilly Shire. History Originally named Myrtle Creek, it was a farming area on the Great Southern Road, later named the Hume Highway. Tahmoor Colliery is an underground coal mine at Tahmoor in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales, Australia. Owned by the SIMEC Group, a GFG Alliance company, the colliery has been shut down since February 2025 owing to financial troubles. History Construction of the mine was commenced by Clutha Development in 1975, and opened in 1980 by BP Coal, which by then had had purchased Clutha. The Whyalla Steelworks is a fully integrated steelworks and the only manufacturer of rail in Australia. It produces 75% of all structural steel in Australia. Iron ore is mined in the Middleback Range to feed the steelworks, resulting in the distribution of finished steel products of over 90 different grades.
