Franklin County, Indiana
Franklin County is a county on the eastern border of the U.S. state of Indiana. In the 2020 United States Census, the county population was 22,785. The county seat is the town of Brookville. Franklin County is part of the Cincinnati, OH–KY–IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The only incorporated city in Franklin County is Batesville, which lies mostly in adjoining Ripley County. Geography Franklin County lies on the eastern edge of Indiana; its eastern border abuts the western border of Ohio. Its low rolling hills, once completely wooded, have been partially cleared and leveled for agricultural use. The carved drainages are still largely brush-filled. According to the 2010 census, the county has a total area of , of which (or 98.31%) is land and (or 1.69%) is water. Brookville Historic District is a national historic district located at Brookville, Franklin County, Indiana. The district encompasses 682 contributing buildings in the central business district and surrounding residential sections of Brookville. It developed between about 1811 and 1913, and includes notable examples of Federal and Greek Revival style architecture. Located in the district are the separately listed Franklin County Seminary and The Hermitage. Other notable contributing buildings include the James Brown Ray House (1811-1820), Old State Bank (c. 1817), James N. Andersonville, Indiana
Andersonville is an unincorporated community in Posey Township in the northwest corner of Franklin County, Indiana, United States. History On October 17, 1820 the government granted 160 acres to John and Simeon Barber/Barbour. Andersonville, the original town known as Ceylon, was laid out in Oct 1831 by Simeon Barber in 1831. It was 78 lots. The original streets (in use today) were laid out 66 feet wide and alleys were feet wide. The Anderson Addition was laid out by Joel (Joseph) Anderson and Fletcher Tevis in 1837 with additional lots and streets. Anderson P.O. was established. The two additions merged and it was renamed in 1849 after Thomas Anderson, a tavern owner. In 1915, Andersonville had about 350 inhabitants. Rush County, Indiana
Rush County is a county in the U.S. state of Indiana. In the 2010 United States Census, the population was 17,392. The county seat (and only city) is Rushville. History When the Indiana Territory was granted statehood (20 December 1816), there were no settlers on the lands of the future Rush County. However, this changed quickly, and by 1821 the newly founded settlements were desirous of being organized into a county unit. Accordingly, the state legislature passed an act dated 31 December 1821 which authorized Rush County, effective 1 April, and further authorized the first commissioners (pro tem) to begin organizing the county's governing structure on 3 June 1822. The act also authorized six townships to cover the county; subsequent growth through the years has caused the number of townships to double. Decatur County is a county in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 26,472. The county seat (and only incorporated city) is Greensburg.
