Francis Malbone
Francis Malbone Jr. (March 20, 1759June 4, 1809) was an American merchant from Newport, Rhode Island. His father, Francis Sr., and his uncle, Evan, were active in the slave trade in Rhode Island. He held the rank of captain in the Rhode Island Militia and served as the commanding officer of the Artillery Company of Newport from 1792 until his death. He represented Rhode Island in the U.S. House from March 4, 1793 until March 3, 1797 and served briefly as a Federalist in the United States Senate from March 4, 1809 to his death three months later. Elisha Mathewson (April 18, 1767October 14, 1853) was a United States senator from Rhode Island. The Congressional Cemetery, officially Washington Parish Burial Ground, is a historic and active cemetery located at 1801 E Street, SE, in Washington, D.C., on the west bank of the Anacostia River. It is the only American "cemetery of national memory" founded before the Civil War.National Historic Landmark Nomination, p. 4 Over 65,000 individuals are buried or memorialized at the cemetery, including many who helped form the nation and the city of Washington in the early 19th century. The United States Capitol, often called The Capitol or the Capitol Building, is the seat of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, which is formally known as the United States Congress.
