Gawalmandi Food Street ( ur, , ''Sarak-e-Khorak Gwolmandi'') is a food street located near Gawalmandi neighbourhood of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Historically it was a posh place and many of the families that migrated to Lahore from Amritsar and nearby cities, after the creation of Pakistan, settled in Gawalmandi. A lack of employment opportunities lead many of them to open up small shops in front of their houses. The migrating families brought along with them new and unique cuisine and recipes, laying the foundation a street well known for its great food. Gawalmandi is a town located in the central part of Lahore. It is regarded as the cultural centre of Lahore. The famous Food Street of Lahore is located here. Gawalmandi is a made of two words Gawala meaning Milkman and Mandi meaning Market. Formally Gawalmandi was one of the largest buffalo milk producing market in Punjab, until large number of Kashmiris started settling in after 1947. Gawalmandi is the hub of Butt family and many UK Butt nationals can derive their ancestry directly from these families. Fort Road Food Street ( ur, , ''Sarak-e-Khorak - Roshnai Darwaza'') is a food street located between Fort Road and Roshnai Gate of the Walled City in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The street was reconstructed and opened in 2012 as a tourist attraction, by offering Lahori cuisine and views of Badshahi Mosque. The street was inaugurated on 21 January 2012, by Hamza Shahbaz Sharif to replace Gawalmandi Food Street. In 2013, the Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA) took charge of the food street from the district government and gave it a major face-lift in collaboration with the private sector. The Fort Road Food Street is known for traditional Lahori cuisines with a view of the Mughal era Badshahi Mosque.
