Foxy Brown (rapper)
Inga DeCarlo Fung Marchand (born September 6, 1978), known professionally as Foxy Brown, is an American rapper. She signed to Def Jam Recordings and released her debut studio album ''Ill Na Na'' (1996) to critical and commercial success. The album peaked at number seven on the US Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200, received RIAA certification, platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), sold over seven million units worldwide, and was supported by the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100-top ten single "I'll Be (Foxy Brown song), I'll Be" (featuring Jay-Z). In 1997, Brown formed the New York City-based hip hop group, The Firm (hip-hop group), The Firm alongside rappers Nas, AZ (rapper), AZ and Cormega. ''Brooklyn's Don Diva'' is the first mixtape by American rapper Foxy Brown. Released in the US on May 13, 2008, it was intended to be the follow-up to 2001's '' Broken Silence''. According to ''Rolling Stone'' magazine, the mixtape would be released prior to '' Black Roses'', the album that she has been working on since 2004 and was recorded in Chung King Studios in New York City. The mixtape was released in the UK on June 2, 2008, and in Japan on July 16, 2008. Several tracks ("When the Lights Go Out", "We Don't Surrender", "Star Cry") have been released to iTunes, as intended singles to promote the mixtape. Three of the mixtape's tracks were produced by Polish beatmaker Matheo. The mixtape's release had been delayed multiple times, primarily due to Foxy Brown's jail sentence. In the modern music industry, a mixtape is a musical project, typically with looser constraints than that of an album or extended play. Unlike the traditional album or extended play, mixtapes are labeled as laid-back projects that allow artists more creative freedom and less commercial pressure. The term has significantly increased in popularity over the years due to high-profile artists marketing their projects as such. Prior to the decline of physical media, mixtapes were defined as homemade compilations of music played through a cassette tape, Compact disc, CD, or digital playlist and became significant in Hip hop (culture), hip-hop culture. The songs were typically beatmatching, beatmatched and consisted of seamless transitions at their beginnings and endings with fades or abrupt edits.
