Flame-crested Tanager
The flame-crested tanager (''Loriotus cristatus'') is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical dry shrubland. Ten subspecies are currently recognized. Taxonomy In 1760 the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson included a description of the flame-crested tanager in the supplement to his ''Ornithologie'' based on a specimen collected in Cayenne, French Guiana. He used the French name ''Le tangara noir hupé de Cayenne'' and the Latin name ''Tangara cayanensis nigra cristata''. The two stars (**) at the start of the paragraph indicates that Brisson based his description on the examination of a specimen. The Old World orioles (Oriolidae) are an Old World family of passerine birds. Taxonomy and systematics The family Oriolidae comprises the piopios, figbirds, pitohuis and the Old World orioles. The piopios were added 2011, having been formerly placed in the family Turnagridae. Several other genera have been proposed to split up the genus ''Oriolus''. For example, the African black-headed species are sometimes placed in a separate genus, ''Baruffius''. The family Oriolidae is not related to the New World orioles, despite their similar size, diet, behaviour and contrasting plumage patterns. Feliks Paweł Jarocki
Feliks Paweł Jarocki ( Pacanów, 14 January 1790 – 25 March 1865, Warsaw) was a Polish zoologist and entomologist. Life Jarocki was a Doctor of Liberal Arts and Philosophy. He organized and managed the Zoological Cabinet of the Royal University of Warsaw from 1819 to 1862. The collection was based on that of Baron Sylwiusz Minckwitz, which included over 20,000 specimens. Jarocki built up this collection through purchases and scientific expeditions to eastern Poland. He also acquired many important books for the zoological library. When he retired the zoological collection included 65,690 specimens, and the library had 2,000 volumes. Loriotus
''Loriotus'' is a genus of birds in the tanager family Thraupidae. The species now placed in this genus were formerly placed in the genus ''Tachyphonus''. Taxonomy and species list The three species now assigned to ''Loriotus'' were traditionally placed in the genus ''Tachyphonus''. A molecular phylogenetic study published in 2014 found that ''Tachyphonus'' was polyphyletic. In the subsequent reorganization the genus ''Loriotus'' was resurrected for these three species.
