"Firefly" is a song by New Zealand band Drax Project, featuring American rapper Fetty Wap and New Zealand musician AACACIA. The song was a success in New Zealand, becoming platinum certified. Background and composition The song was written in Los Angeles with Rogét Chahayed and Imad Royal in a single three-hour writing session, and was inspired by a visit to Long Island. The band added a brass section to the song, as they felt that this suited the song's party vibe. Release The song was released as a single on 23 October 2020. A music video was released for the song, which was shot in a rural area of Wellington. Drax Project
Drax Project is a New Zealand pop and R&B band that formed in Te Aro, Wellington in 2014. Recording a mix of jazz, R&B and pop music, the band came to prominence in 2017 with the single " Woke Up Late", which was certified triple platinum by RIANZ while the 2019 version featuring Hailee Steinfeld was certified triple platinum in Australia. Background Most of Drax Project's members went to school together in Porirua and began as buskers in Central Wellington in 2013, composed of Shaan Singh on saxophone and Matt Beachen on drums (the origin of the band's name is a portmanteau of 'drums' and 'sax'). Drax Project mostly performed pop song covers while busking at Courtenay Place, Wellington and performing at local bars and events. "Tukituki Te Manawa" ("Fluttering Heart") is a song by New Zealand band Drax Project, performed in Māori language. It was the band's second song released as a part of the ''Waiata / Anthems'' project, with their first being a re-release of their 2017 single " Woke Up Late" for the 2019 ''Waiata / Anthems'' compilation album. An unreleased song by the band originally written in English, "Tukituki Te Manawa" translated into Māori by Hinewehi Mohi and Sir Tīmoti Kāretu and released on Christmas Day 2020.
