''El Impulso'' is the oldest newspaper in Venezuela founded in 1904, it's a regional newspaper, headquartered in Barquisimeto, in the state of Lara. El Impulso is a family owned business, and its currently managed by the fourth and fifth generation. History Founding Founded in Carora in 1904, ''El Impulso'' moved to Barquisimeto in 1919. El ImpulsoHistoria/ref> Founded by Federico Carmona in 1904, it was passed on to his son in 1928, and was controlled by the Carmona family. Bolivarian government The paper ceased publication on 15 September 2014 due to the lack of printing paper and financial problems, though it later was able to produce once again. Almost four years later, the newspaper released a statement explaining that the circulation of physical copies was to cease indefinitely due to the mismanagement and censorship practices of the Nicolás Maduro government. Barquisimeto, Venezuela
Barquisimeto (; guc, Watkisimeeta) is a city in Venezuela. It is the capital of the state of Lara and head of Iribarren Municipality. It is an important urban, industrial, commercial and transportation center of the country, recognized as the fourth-largest city by population and area in Venezuela after Caracas, Maracaibo and Valencia. History Barquisimeto was founded in 1552 by Juan de Villegas, as a headquarters and to have better control of the territory believed to be rich in gold. Lara (state)
Lara State ( es, Estado Lara, ) is one of the 23 states of Venezuela, states of Venezuela. The state capital is Barquisimeto. Lara State covers a total surface area of and, in 2015, had a census population of 2,019,211. Toponymy The state is named after a notable hero of Venezuela's independence, General Jacinto Lara. Carora
The City of Carora, commonly called Carora City (in Spanish, Ciudad de Carora), is a city in Lara State, Venezuela, on the Morere River, a branch of the Tocuyo River. It is about 54 miles southwest of Barquisimeto. Carora City was founded twice. The first time, in the year 1569 by Juan de Trejo, but due to constant attacks from the indigenous population, it was abandoned, only to be refounded three years later (1572) by Juan de Salmanca. Carora City flourished in colonial times having a population of nearly 10,000. As of 1911, the neighboring country was devoted principally to raising horses, mules and cattle; in addition to hides and leather, it exported rubber and other forest products. Censorship in Venezuela refers to all actions which can be considered as suppression in speech in the country. Reporters Without Borders ranked Venezuela 137th out of 180 countries in its ''World Press Freedom Index 2015'' and classified Venezuela's freedom of information in the "difficult situation" level. The Constitution of Venezuela says that freedom of expression and press freedom are protected. Article 57 states that "Everyone has the right to freely express his or her thoughts, ideas or opinions orally, in writing or by any other form of expression, and to use for such purpose any means of communication and diffusion, and no censorship shall be established." Nicolás Maduro Moros (; born 23 November 1962) is a Venezuelan politician and president of Venezuela since 2013, with his presidency under dispute since 2019. Beginning his working life as a bus driver, Maduro rose to become a trade union leader before being elected to the National Assembly in 2000.
