Executive Order 14162
Executive Order 14162, titled "Putting America First In International Environmental Agreements", is an executive order signed by United States president Donald Trump on January 20, 2025, during the first day of his second presidential term. The order directed the immediate withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Agreement and other international climate commitments. The executive order marked the second time the United States had withdrawn from the Paris Agreement, following a previous withdrawal during Trump's first presidential term. Provisions The order directed the United States Ambassador to the United Nations to immediately notify the Secretary-General of the United Nations's withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, implemented under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Paris Agreement
The Paris Agreement (also called the Paris Accords or Paris Climate Accords) is an international treaty on climate change that was signed in 2016. The treaty covers climate change mitigation, adaptation, and finance. The Paris Agreement was negotiated by 196 parties at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference near Paris, France. As of February 2023, 195 members of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) are parties to the agreement. Of the three UNFCCC member states which have not ratified the agreement, the only major emitter is Iran. Émilie Laurence Tubiana (; born 5 July 1951) is a French economist, professor and diplomat. She served as France's Climate Change Ambassador and Special Representative for the 2015 COP21 Climate Change Conference in Paris, for which she became recognised as a key architect of the resulting Paris Agreement.
