Embolemopsis
''Embolemopsis'' is an extinct genus of wasps belonging to the family Embolemidae. Two species are known: the type species, ''E. baissensis'' from the Aptian Zaza Formation of Russia,M. Olmi, A. P. Rasnitsyn, and A. Guglielmino. (2010). Revision of rock fossils of Dryinidae and Embolemidae (Hymenoptera: Chrysidoidea). Discovery and naming The holotype of ''E. baissensis'', PIN 4210/7295, was discovered in Baissa, Russia within an outcrop of the Zaza Formation and was named described by Olmi ''et al.'' (2010) within a revision of the Dryinidae and Embolemidae. The holotype, and only specimen, of ''E. maryannae'' was discovered in Chilton Chine, England in the L6 plant debris bed of the Wealden Formation, and before being named, ''E. maryannae'' was previously described as a member of the Dryinidae in a conference abstract by Jarzembowski (2015). Embolemidae
Embolemidae is a family of small solitary parasitoid wasps with around 70 species in 2 genera distributed around the world.van Achterberg, Cornelis & Kats, R.. (2000). Revision of the Palaearctic Embolemidae (Hymenoptera). Zoöl. Med. 74 (2000), 17: 251-269. The few species whose biology is known are parasites on planthopper nymphs of the families Achilidae and Cixiidae. There is debate regarding the status of the genus named ''Ampulicomorpha'' by Ashmead in 1893, generally considered now to be a junior synonym of '' Embolemus'' (e.g.,), though some authorities dispute this (e.g.,) Biology Females are wingless while males have wings, and in temperate regions emerge later than the females, which overwinter as adults. The wingless females have been recorded from the nests of ants and small mammal burrows, or under stones in pastures and grasslands, and they appear to be ant mimics. Wessex Formation
The Wessex Formation is a fossil-rich England, English geological formation that dates from the Berriasian to Barremian Stage (stratigraphy), stages of the Early Cretaceous. It forms part of the Wealden Group and underlies the younger Vectis Formation and overlies the Durlston Formation. The dominant lithology of this unit is mudstone with some interbedded sandstones. It is part of the strata of the Wessex Basin, exposed in both the Isle of Purbeck and the Isle of Wight. While the Purbeck sections are largely barren of vertebrate remains, the Isle of Wight sections are well known for producing the richest and most diverse fauna in Early Cretaceous Europe.
