Derrick White (politician)
Derrick O'Clancy White was a writer and political activist originally from Dublin who was a parliamentary candidate initially for the Scottish National Party and then latterly for the Scottish Socialist Party in the Lothians. Early life White was the youngest of three sons of Captain Jack White (1879–1946), one of the co-founders in the great Dublin lock-out of 1913 of the Irish Citizen Army and a veteran of numerous left-wing organisations, and grandson of Field Marshal Sir George White VC, who was known for holding Ladysmith during its siege during the Boer War. His maternal great-grandfather was J.J. Clancy and his paternal great-grandfather was Joseph Baly.Keohane (2014) page,233 White's father died when he was three. The ''Scottish Left Review'' is a bi-monthly magazine publication of the Scottish left. It was established in 2000 by several prominent left-wing figures, including Bob Thomson, Henry McCubbin, Jimmy Reid, Roseanna Cunningham, and John McAllion. Contributions come from members of all parties of the Scottish left and none. In 2006, it established the Scottish Left Review Press - which has published the best selling 'Is there a Scottish road to socialism?' edited collection - and in 2010 it also established the Jimmy Reid Foundation. East Lothian
East Lothian (; sco, East Lowden; gd, Lodainn an Ear) is one of the 32 council areas of Scotland, as well as a historic county, registration county and lieutenancy area. The county was called Haddingtonshire until 1921. In 1975, the historic county was incorporated for local government purposes into Lothian Region as East Lothian District, with some slight alterations of its boundaries. Edinburgh East and Musselburgh was a constituency of the Scottish Parliament ( Holyrood). It elected one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the plurality (first past the post) method of election.
