District 15 (Wisconsin State Senate)
The 15th Senate District of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin Senate. Located in southern Wisconsin, the district comprises most of Rock County and parts of northwest Walworth County and southern Jefferson County. It includes the cities of Janesville, Beloit, Edgerton, Evansville, Milton, and Whitewater. Current elected officials Mark Spreitzer is the senator representing the 15th district since January 2023. He previously served in the State Assembly, representing the 45th Assembly district from 2015 to 2023. Each Wisconsin State Senate district is composed of three Wisconsin State Assembly districts. Oregon, Wisconsin
Oregon is a village in Dane County, Wisconsin. As of the census of 2020, the population was 11,179. Oregon is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village is located mostly within the Town of Oregon. History Oregon was settled in 1841 by Bartlet Runey, and the first house was constructed in 1843. Initially the settlement was known as "Rome Corners," and there is a road south of the village which still bears that name. When the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company came through the village in 1864, their maps indicated a name of "Oregon," and the name was adopted. The village was incorporated in 1881. Many of Oregon's historical buildings still stand in the downtown district, including the Netherwood Block on the south, the Badger Cycle Company building and original water tower on the southeast on Janesville Street, and numerous business lining the west side of North and South Main Street. Beloit College
Beloit College is a private liberal arts college in Beloit, Wisconsin. Founded in 1846, when Wisconsin was still a territory, it is the state's oldest continuously operated college. It is a member of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest and has an enrollment of roughly 1,400 undergraduate students. History Beloit College was founded by the group Friends for Education, which was started by seven pioneers from New England who, soon after their arrival in the Wisconsin Territory, agreed that a college needed to be established. The group raised funds for a college in their town and convinced the territorial legislature to enact the charter for Beloit College on February 2, 1846. The first building (then called Middle College) was built in 1847, and remains in operation. Classes began in the fall of 1847, with the first degrees awarded in 1851. Courthouse Hill Historic District
The Courthouse Hill Historic District is a 30-block area on the east side of Janesville, Wisconsin, containing many historic structures built from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s in various styles, including homes of many of Janesville's influential leaders from that period. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. With The first European-American settlers arrived in what would become Janesville in 1835, two years after the end of the Black Hawk War. The following year Janesville was designated the seat of Rock County. Lumber mills sprang up, and flour mills to grind the wheat produced in surrounding farmlands. In 1851 the first Wisconsin State Fair was held in the Courthouse Hill area. People initially built smaller frame houses in what would become the district, but these were eventually replaced by larger, more substantial structures. Lappin-Hayes Block
The Lappin-Hayes Block is a 4-story commercial building in Janesville, Wisconsin, started in 1855 and expanded in 1899. It housed a public hall called Lappin's Hall and the early offices of Northwestern Mutual Life. In 1976 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. History In 1836 Henry F. Janes, for whom Janesville was named, built a wooden house in the wilds where this block would end up - one of the first houses in Rock County. As the community grew, he ran a ferry across the Rock River, ran a tavern, and established the first post office in Rock County. With Thomas Lappin arrived in 1839, a few years later, and started the first store in Janesville, on Main Street. In 1842 he built a wooden 2-story store on the site of the current Lappin-Hayes Block. He prospered, and in 1855 replaced that store with a grand new $36,000 brick business block. Mark Pocan
Mark William Pocan ( ; born August 14, 1964) is an American politician and businessman serving as the U.S. representative from Wisconsin's 2nd congressional district since 2013. The district is based in the state capital, Madison. A member of the Democratic Party, Pocan is co-chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus and chair emeritus of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. From 1999 to 2013 he served as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing the 78th district, succeeding Tammy Baldwin there, whom he also replaced in the House when Baldwin was elected to the U.S. Senate. Wisconsin's 2nd congressional district is a congressional district of the United States House of Representatives in southern Wisconsin, covering Dane County, Iowa County, Lafayette County, Sauk County and Green County, as well as portions of Richland County and Rock County. Bryan George Steil ( ; born March 3, 1981) is an American attorney, businessman, and politician serving as the U.S. representative for Wisconsin's 1st congressional district. Wisconsin's 5th Congressional District
Wisconsin's 5th congressional district is a congressional district of the United States House of Representatives in Wisconsin, covering most of Milwaukee's northern and western suburbs. It presently covers all of Washington and Jefferson counties, most of Waukesha County, and portions of Dodge, Milwaukee and Walworth counties. It is currently represented by Republican Scott Fitzgerald. This was historically the most Republican district in Wisconsin, but as suburban areas have moved left, while rural and areas of industrial workers have moved right, the 7th and 8th have surpassed the 5th. Clinton M. Anderson (born May 26, 1993) is an American politician from Beloit, Wisconsin. He is a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Wisconsin's 45th Assembly district since January 2023. He is also currently a member of the Beloit city council. Biography Clinton Anderson was and raised in the city of Beloit, Wisconsin.
