Danish Handball Cup
The Danish Men's Handball cup () is the nationwide cup tournament for men's handball teams in Denmark. It’s also known as Santander Cup for sponsorship reasons. The competition has been played annually since 1964. Tournament structure The initial fase of the tournament is split in two. They are managed by the three regional federations, Jydsk Håndbold Forbund (JHF) in Jutland, and Håndboldregion Øst (HRØ) in Sealand together with Fyns Håndbold Forbund (FHF) in fyn. The western half of the initial tournament lasts 7 rounds, while the eastern half lasts 6 round. After the initial fase the DHF taking over the tournament at the round of 16. At the round of 16 and onwards, there are no longer geographical considerations, when drawing the matches. The tournament ultimately results in a final four event scheduled between Christmas and New Year. Frederiksberg Idræts-Forening, often just called Frederiksberg IF or FIF is a Danish sports club based in Frederiksberg. The club has teams in many different sports, but is most famous for its handball team. The men's team is currently playing in the second tier, Danish 1st Division. The official fan group is called FIF Ultras. History The club was founded on 24 February 1913, while the handball department was founded in 1935. The women's handball team has won the Danish Women's Handball League 12 times, most of them being in the 1950's, 60's and 70's. They last one the Danish championship in 1989. F.C. Copenhagen Handball (or simply FCK Handball) was a Danish handball team, playing in Copenhagen. They had both a male and a female team, both playing in the best Danish leagues, the Danish Handball League (men) and Danish Women's Handball League (women). FCK Handball was owned by Parken Sport & Entertainment - the same company behind the football team, F.C. Copenhagen. The official fan club was called FCKHFC (FC København Håndbold Fan Club). TTH Holstebro is a men's handball club from Holstebro, Denmark. The team is playing in the Danish Primo Tours Ligaen and play their home matches in Gråkjær Arena. History The club was founded on 1 May 2000, when Holstebro Håndbold 90 and Tvis KFUM merged their first teams to create the new club. In 2002 disagreements between HH90 and Tvis KFUM nearly let to the dissolvement of the club. A general assemply was called to dissilve the club, but an agreement between the two founding clubs was found last minute, which separated the elite team as its own legal entity. In 2008 the club won their first ever trophy, when they won the Danish Men's Handball Cup. In 2016 the club changed the name from 'Team Tvis Holstebro' to 'TTH Holstebro'. Viborg HK (Viborg Håndbold Klub) is a Danish professional handball club from Viborg, Denmark, Viborg. The club has many teams for both women and men, but especially the professional women's team is one of the most successful in Danish and European handball since the beginning of the 1990s. Skanderborg Håndbold, previously known as Vrold-Skanderborg Håndboldklub is a women's handball club based in Skanderborg in Jutland, Denmark. The club has over 650 members, which makes it one of the biggest handball clubs in Denmark and the biggest in Jutland. In 2021, Aarhus Håndbold merged with Skanderborg Håndbold's men's team, and they changed the name to Skanderborg Aarhus Håndbold. History The club was founded in 1982 and was the result of a merger between Stilling-Skanderborg and Vrold-Skanderborg Handball Club. Skjern Handball () is a team handball, handball club from Skjern, Denmark. Currently, Skjern Handball competes in the Danish Handball League, which they have won twice, in 1999 and in 2018. They have also achieved international success, by winning the EHF Challenge Cup twice, in 2002 and 2003. The home arena of Skjern Håndbold is Skjern Bank Arena. Virum-Sorgenfri Håndboldklub was a handball club based in Virum, north of Copenhagen, Denmark. They played at Virumhallerne. The club was founded in 1941 under the name ''Virum Gymnastikforening''. Due to primarily being a handball club, they change their name – first to ''Virum Håndboldklub'', and later Virum-Sorgenfri Håndboldklub. The club went bankrupt in 2002. The club VSH 2002 was founded as phoenix club. The men's team was first promoted to the highest tier of Danish handball in 1973.
