History Beginning (1933–1966) In 1933 Mads Clausen (1905–1966) founded ''Dansk Køleautomatik- og Apparatfabrik'', later in 1946 the company name was changed to ''Danfoss''. The first product was an expansion valve for refrigeration units, it was developed after studying imported valves from the US. In 1941, activities expanded to products for heating. Danfoss Compressors GmbH was a subsidiary of the Danfoss, Danfoss Group, a Denmark, Danish manufacturer of valves and fluid-handling products, from 1956 to 2010. Secop GmbH (formerly known as ''Danfoss Compressors GmbH'') is a manufacturer of hermetic compressors for cooling circuits. Jørgen Mads Clausen
Jørgen Mads Clausen (born 23 September 1948) is a Danish businessman and philanthropist. He was the CEO of Danfoss, the Danish heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning company, from 1996 to 2009 then chairman until 2022. The company was founded by his father, Mads Clausen, and is controlled by his family. He is also the chairman of DI, the association of the Danish Industry, and has a sizeable investment in the WaveStar wave energy project. Education Clausen graduated as a civil engineer from the Technical University of Denmark in 1972 and received an MBA from the University of Wisconsin in 1975. A thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) is a self-regulating valve fitted to hot water heating system radiator (heating), radiator, to control the temperature of a room by changing the flow of hot water to the radiator. Functioning Conventional wax motor TRV The classic thermostatic radiator valve contains a plug, typically made of wax (forming a wax motor), which expands or contracts with the surrounding temperature. This plug is connected to a pin which in turn is connected to a valve. The valve gradually closes as the temperature of the surrounding area increases, limiting the amount of hot water entering the radiator. This allows a maximum temperature to be set for each room. As the valve works by sensing the temperature of the air surrounding it, it is important to ensure that it is not covered by material (such as curtains). Mads Clausen (21 October 1905 – 27 August 1966) born in Elsmark, parish of Havnbjerg, municipality of Nordborg in Denmark, was a Danish industrialist and founder of Danfoss in 1933.
