Cy Laurie
Cyril Laurie (20 April 1926 – 18 April 2002) was an English jazz clarinettist and bandleader. Biography Born in London, England, of Latvian/Jewish immigrant stock, Laurie was a bandleader and self-taught clarinet player. He put together his own band in 1947; George Melly debuted in this ensemble in 1948. He played with Mike Daniels in 1949-50 and led the Cy Laurie Four in 1950, with Fred Hunt and Les Jowett. Alan Elsdon
Alan Elsdon (15 October 1934 – 2 May 2016) was an English jazz trumpeter and flugelhornist. Biography Elsdon was born in London on 15 October 1934. He studied trumpet under Tommy McQuater. His early professional work included time with Cy Laurie (1954–56), Graham Stewart and his 'Graham Stewart Seven' (1957–58), a Royal Air Force band, and Terry Lightfoot (1959–61); with Lightfoot he played alongside Kid Ory and Red Allen. Elsdon led his own band from 1961 (he made an appearance on 1 June 1962 in a TV series called ''All That Jazz'') into the 1990s, and during the 1960s also played with Edmond Hall, Albert Nicholas, Wingy Manone, and Howlin' Wolf. Elsdon played in Keith Nichols's Midnite Follies Orchestra from 1978 to 1985, as well as in small groups with Nichols around the same time. The 100 Club is a music venue located at 100 Oxford Street, London, England, where it has been hosting live music since 24 October 1942. It was originally called the Feldman Swing Club, but changed its name when the father of the current owner took over in 1964. Feldman Swing Club In 1942, the venue was a restaurant called Macks, which was hired out beginning 24 October every Sunday evening by Robert Feldman at £4 per night to host a jazz club featuring swing music. John Maxwell Collie (21 February 1931 – 6 January 2018) was an Australian trombonist who plays Dixieland. Born in Melbourne, Australia, he played with several different jazz band before forming his own group, Max Collie's Rhythm Aces, in February 1966.1 They released their first record in 1971 and, in 1975, won a world championship in traditional jazz against 14 North American jazz bands.
