Capital Crime Writers
Capital Crime Writers (CCW) is a non-profit crime and mystery writing organization located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1988 by Linda Wiken and Audrey Jessup. CCW has 125 members. Monthly meetings include presentations from expert guest speakers on topics related to the craft of crime and mystery writing. Authors who have presented to CCW include Louise Penny, Vicki Delany, and Maureen Jennings, Barbara Fradkin and Debra Komar. Annual Short Story Contest CCW sponsors the annual Capital Crime Writer's short story contest for the Audrey Jessup award. Deadline for submissions is April 1. The contest is open to the National Capital Region and CCW members regardless of location. Organization CCW is run by 6 executive board members. Arthur Ellis Award
The Crime Writers of Canada Awards of Excellence, formerly known as the Arthur Ellis Awards, are a group of Canadian literary awards, presented annually by the Crime Writers of Canada for the best Canadian crime and mystery writing published in the previous year. The award is presented at a gala dinner in the year following publication. The awards were named for Arthur Ellis, the pseudonym of Canada's official hangman. Mary Jane Maffini
Mary Jane Maffini is a Canadian mystery writer. She has created three mystery series and written 12 novels. Ladies Killing Circle & RendezVous Crime anthologies as well as Chatelaine magazine, Storyteller Magazine, and Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine have published her short stories. She has won two Arthur Ellis Awards for her short stories. Biography Mary Jane Maffini was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and holds a BA (Hons) and a Masters in Library Sciences (MLS) from Dalhousie University. Rick Mofina
Rick Mofina is a Canadian author of crime fiction and thriller novels. He grew up in Belleville, Ontario and began writing short stories in school. He sold his first short story at the age of fifteen. As a member of the Mystery Writers of America, the International Thriller Writers, the International Crime Writers Association, and the Crime Writers' Association and Crime Writers of Canada, Rick continues to be a featured panelist at mystery conferences across the United States and Canada. Mofina began writing at the age of 18, inspired by a hitchhiking trip down to California from his home town of Belleville. Although he wrote a novel about his experiences it was never published. A note is a string of text placed at the bottom of a page in a book or document or at the end of a chapter, volume, or the whole text. Brenda Chapman (writer)
Brenda Chapman (born 1955) is a Canadian writer of mystery novels. Her Jennifer Bannon mysteries are for ages ten and up. She has also published several short stories and murder mysteries. Her Stonechild and Rouleau Mystery Series feature the damaged, brilliant detective Kala Stonechild and workaholic staff sergeant Jacques Rouleau. Bio Chapman grew up in Terrace Bay, Ontario, a small town on the North Shore of Lake Superior. She graduated from Lakehead University, majoring in English literature, and earned a Bachelor of Education degree from Queen's University. After teaching special education for fifteen years, she became a senior communications advisor in the federal government. Chapman served two terms as President of Capital Crime Writers.
