CKRW-FM
CKRW-FM (''96.1 The Rush'') is a hot adult contemporary radio station in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. History Its first transmission was on 17 November 1969 at 6:00 a.m.; it began simulcasting on AM and FM on September 14, 2004 at 610 kHz and 96.1 MHz. The FM station was considered the primary signal by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, although unlike most AM to FM conversions the station retained its AM transmitter in order to serve listeners who were unable to receive the FM signal due to the Whitehorse area's mountainous terrain. However, as of 2017 the AM transmitter is off the air, and with a defective transmitter and a previously damaged and unrepairable radio tower at hand, it is unlikely that CKRW will restore the AM service. CKRW's programming is also transmitted into other Yukon communities, including Watson Lake, Haines Junction, Faro, Mayo and Teslin. Inuvik
Inuvik (''place of man'') is the only town in the Inuvik Region, and the third largest community in Canada's Northwest Territories. Located in what is sometimes called the Beaufort Delta Region, it serves as its administrative and service centre and is home to federal, territorial, and Indigenous government offices, along with the regional hospital and airport. Inuvik is located on the northern edge of the boreal forest, just before it begins to transition to tundra, and along the east side of the enormous Mackenzie River delta. Whitehorse
Whitehorse () is the capital of Yukon, and the largest city in Northern Canada. It was incorporated in 1950 and is located at kilometre 1426 (Historic Mile 918) on the Alaska Highway in southern Yukon. Whitehorse's downtown and Riverdale areas occupy both shores of the Yukon River, which rises in British Columbia and meets the Bering Sea in Alaska. The city was named after the White Horse Rapids for their resemblance to the mane of a white horse, near Miles Canyon, before the river was dammed. Because of the city's location in the Whitehorse valley and relative proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the climate is milder than comparable northern communities such as Yellowknife. Dawson City
Dawson City, officially the City of Dawson, is a town in the Canadian territory of Yukon. It is inseparably linked to the Klondike Gold Rush (1896–99). Its population was 1,577 as of the 2021 census, making it the second-largest town in Yukon. History Prior to the Late Modern Period, the area was used for hunting/gathering by the Hän-speaking people of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and their forebears. CFYT-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 106.9 FM in Dawson City, Yukon. The station airs a community radio format. CFYT-FM is a volunteer-driven community radio station operated by the Dawson City Community Radio Society, a non-profit organization that was established in 1984. Mayo, Yukon
Mayo is a village in Yukon, Canada, along the Silver Trail and the Stewart River. It had a population of 200 in 2016. The Yukon Bureau of Statistics estimated a population of 496 in 2019. It is also the home of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun, whose primary language is Northern Tutchone. ''Na-Cho Nyäk Dun'' translates into "big river people." The community, formerly called Mayo Landing, is serviced by Mayo Airport. The village was named after former circus acrobat turned settler and explorer Alfred Mayo. Its only school is J. V. Clark School, which is named after James Vincent Clark (1924–1994). The school had about 70 students in 2012. As of the 2020/2021 school year, the acting principal is Nicholas Vienneau. Atlin ( Tlingit: ''Wéinaa'') is a community in northwestern British Columbia, Canada, located on the eastern shore of Atlin Lake. In addition to continued gold-mining activity, Atlin is a tourist destination for fishing, hiking and Heliskiing. As of 2016, there are 477 permanent residents. The name comes from Áa Tlein, the Tlingit language word for "big body of water". The surrounding area has been used by Inland Tlingit people for many years and the community is home to the Taku River Tlingit First Nation. Old Crow, Yukon
Old Crow is a community in the Canadian territory of Yukon. Located in a periglacial environment, the community is situated on the Porcupine River in the far northern part of the territory. Old Crow is the only Yukon community that cannot be reached by motor vehicle, requiring visitors to fly in to Old Crow Airport. It is a dry community. Old Crow is also the northernmost non-Inuit community in North America, and the only such community situated north of the Arctic Circle.
