Champoluc
Champoluc () is a village in the commune of Ayas, Aosta Valley, Ayas, in the Aosta Valley, Northern Italy. The area is known as a centre for hiking, mountaineering and skiing, particularly around the Monte Rosa Massif. Geography It is one of the 3 main villages in the commune of Ayas, Aosta Valley, Ayas, together with Antagnod (where the town hall is located) and Saint-Jacques-des-Allemands. It lies at an altitude of 1568 metres in a broad flat part of the upper Ayas valley. Above Champoluc, to the East, is the ''Plan du Crest'' (1975 meters), one of the largest ski areas in the Aosta Valley, reachable by cable car from the centre of the village. Ayas, Aosta Valley
Ayas ( or ; Gressoney-Saint-Jean, Gressoney ; between 1939 and 1945) is a ''comune, comune sparso'' in the Aosta Valley region of northwestern Italy, with 1359 inhabitants in 2010. Geography It is made up of several ''Frazione, frazioni'' (locally officially called ''hameaux'', in French language, French), the two major ones being Antagnod which holds the town hall and the main parish, and Champoluc. All the ''frazioni'' of Ayas were combined under the one jurisdictional parish of Saint-Martin d'Antagnod in 1761. They remained combined in this way until the new parish of Sainte-Anne of Champoluc was built in 1946. The comune of Ayas lies up the Ayas valley from Brusson, Aosta Valley, Brusson. Monterosa Ski
The Monterosa Ski is an Italian ski resort, at the foot of Monte Rosa the second tallest mountain in the Alps, which links three valleys, located largely in the Aosta Valley and the remainder in Piedmont. Much of the area consists of easy and intermediate skiing, but the area around the Passo dei Salati and especially the steep slopes in Alagna Valsesia are a major and very famous destination for freeride skiers and snow-boarders. Description The area takes its name from the huge and spectacular Monte Rosa massif as the heads of its three constituent valleys are located within this group. Monte Rosa (; ; ; or ; ) is a mountain massif in the eastern part of the Pennine Alps, on the border between Italy (Piedmont and Aosta Valley) and Switzerland (Valais). Walser
The Walser people are the speakers of the Walser German dialects, a variety of Highest Alemannic. They inhabit the region of the Alps of Swiss Alps, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, as well as the fringes of Italy and Austria. The Walser people are named after the Valais, Wallis (Valais), the uppermost Rhône valley, where they settled from roughly the 10th century in the late phase of the migration of the Alamanni, crossing from the Bernese Oberland; because of linguistic differences among the Walser dialects, it is supposed that there were two independent immigration routes. The Lys (Walser German: ''Liisu'' or ''Lyesu'') is a small river (classified as a '' torrente'').
