Chaja Goldstein
Chaja Ruchel Goldstein (2 July 1908 – 27 January 1999) was a Polish-born Dutch dancer and singer. The daughter of Jacob Schyja Goldstein and Laja Bromberger, she was born in a ghetto in Rypin. At the age of ten, she moved to Berlin with her family. Goldstein began performing in 1931, dancing and singing Yiddish songs at a Jewish theatre. She lived with the painter György Kepes and had an affair with the Dutch artist Wijnand Grijzen. In 1933, with the rise to power of the Nazis, she moved to Amsterdam. There, she taught dance and gymnastics and also performed in theatres such as the and the Kurhaus of Scheveningen. Goldstein joined the cabaret performing group . She also performed with Trudi Schoop's ballet company in various locations around the world. Goldstein appeared in an experimental colour film by Paul Schuitema in 1946. Paul Schuitema
Geert Paul Hendrikus Schuitema (; 27 February 1897 – 25 October 1973) was a Dutch graphic artist. He also designed furniture and expositions and worked as photographer, film director, painter and teacher for publicity design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Industrial design Schuitema studied at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam. In the 1920s, he began to work on graphic design, applying the principles of De Stijl and constructivism to commercial advertising. Netanya
Netanya (also known as Natanya, he, נְתַנְיָה) is a city in the Northern Central District of Israel, and is the capital of the surrounding Sharon plain. It is north of Tel Aviv, and south of Haifa, between Poleg stream and Wingate Institute in the south and the Avihayil stream in the north. Trudi Schoop
Trudi Schoop (October 9, 1904 – July 14, 1999) was a Swiss dancer who pioneered the treatment of mental illness with dance therapy. Life and work Born in Switzerland, the daughter of the editor of the Swiss newspaper ''Neue Zürcher Zeitung'', Her younger sister was Hedi Schoop. Schoop was mostly self-taught, though she did study some ballet and modern dance after she was an established performer. She performed throughout the 1930s and made several tours of the United States, arranged by the impresario Sol Hurok. Schoop, the performer, was often referred to as a female Charlie Chaplin. She often toured often under the moniker, "Trudi Schoop and her Dancing Comedians." Schoop stayed in Switzerland during World War II, and often performed in anti-Fascist cabaret shows. She resumed touring after the war, but disbanded her dance company in 1947 and moved to Los Angeles, California to undertake an exploration of dance as therapy for schizophrenic patients. Rypin
Rypin (german: Rippin) is a town in north-central Poland, in Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, about 50 km east of Toruń. It is the capital of Rypin County. Population is 16,950 (2009). History Rypin was founded in the Middle Ages, and was part of Poland since the establishment of the state in the 10th century. The Kurhaus of Scheveningen, The Hague in the Netherlands is a hotel which has been called the Grand Hotel Amrâth Kurhaus The Hague since October 2014. It is located in the main seaside resort area, near the beach. History The Kurhaus was built between 1884 and 1885 by the German architects Johann Friedrich Henkenhaf and Friedrich Ebert. It consisted originally of a concert hall and a hotel with 120 rooms. Having suffered serious damage by fire, it was rebuilt between 1886 and 1887. The ceilings were painted by the Brussels artist Van Hoeck and his large workshop. Several kings and heads of state sojourned in the Kurhaus during its heyday.
