CJOC-FM
CJOC-FM (94.1 FM) is a radio station in Lethbridge, Alberta. Owned by Vista Radio, it broadcasts a classic hits format. History The station was licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission on August 2, 2006, and officially launched on July 3, 2007. The CJOC calls were previously used by an AM station in Lethbridge, which now broadcasts as CJRX-FM. That station has no ownership association with the current CJOC. Its sister station was CJCY-FM Medicine Hat. In December 2018, Clear Sky Radio announced the sale of its remaining stations to Vista Radio. In June 2019, CJOC was rebranded under Vista's standard ''Juice FM'' brand. In July 2020, CJOC reverted to its previous branding of ''94.1 CJOC''. CKBD-FM (98.1 FM, ''98.1 The Ranch'') is a radio station in Lethbridge, Alberta. Owned by Vista Radio, it broadcasts a country format. History The station signed on in December 2000 as CJTS-FM, a Christian station broadcasting at 97.1 FM, initially owned by Spirit Broadcasting. In 2006, the station was sold to Golden West Broadcasting. In addition, the CRTC approved a re-location to 98.1 FM, and an increase in power to 20,000 watts. Golden West stated that the owner's health, as well as the station's financial performance, were factors in the decision to sell. In April 2007, the station switched frequencies and adopted the new call letters CKVN-FM. The station maintained its contemporary Christian music format (with branding modelled upon then-sister station CHVN-FM in Winnipeg). Clear Sky Radio was a Canadian broadcasting company that owned radio stations in Alberta and British Columbia. The company, headquartered in Lethbridge, Alberta, was incorporated in 2006 after it was granted its first radio license. In January 2018, Clear Sky sold CJCY-FM in Medicine Hat to Rogers Media, and a 25% stake in the yet-to-have-launched CKOV-FM in Strathmore to Golden West Broadcasting (with Clear Sky's co-owners Paul Larsen and Mary McKinnon Mills retaining a majority stake). Vista Radio Ltd. (also formerly known as Vista Broadcast Group) is a Courtenay, British Columbia-based media company. Owned by Westerkirk Capital, Vista is the second-largest owner of radio stations in Canada. AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. Canadian Communications Foundation
The Canadian Communications Foundation (CCF) was a Canadian nonprofit organization which documented the history of broadcasting in Canada, particularly radio and television networks, programs and broadcasters. The organization was established in 1967 and announced that it would begin wrapping up its work in 2023. Since 1995, the organization distributed its collection via its website. The CCF was established in 1967 by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. Its mission: to "commemorate throughout Canada the development of electronic communications". By 2020, the foundation started to wind down as its original mission was largely accomplished. CJRX-FM (106.7 MHz) is a radio station in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Owned by Rogers Radio, a division of Rogers Sports & Media, the station airs a Classic rock format branded as ''106.7 Rock''. History The station was founded as CJOC in 1926, named after its founder, Jock Palmer. In 1928, it was bought by Taylor Pearson & Carson, which evolved into Selkirk Communications. Originally on 1100 AM, it moved to 1120 in 1928, 1400 in 1942 and 1220 in 1960. The station was a founding affiliate of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1936 and then of its Trans-Canada Network until 1962 when it became a CBC Radio network affiliate. The station disaffiliated in 1978. Along with most of Selkirk's radio holdings, CJOC was sold to Rogers in 1989 after Selkirk merged with Maclean-Hunter.
