CJRX-FM
CJRX-FM (106.7 MHz) is a radio station in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Owned by Rogers Radio, a division of Rogers Sports & Media, the station airs a Classic rock format branded as ''106.7 Rock''. History The station was founded as CJOC in 1926, named after its founder, Jock Palmer. In 1928, it was bought by Taylor Pearson & Carson, which evolved into Selkirk Communications. Originally on 1100 AM, it moved to 1120 in 1928, 1400 in 1942 and 1220 in 1960. The station was a founding affiliate of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1936 and then of its Trans-Canada Network until 1962 when it became a CBC Radio network affiliate. The station disaffiliated in 1978. Along with most of Selkirk's radio holdings, CJOC was sold to Rogers in 1989 after Selkirk merged with Maclean-Hunter. CBC Radio One is the English-language news and information radio network of the publicly owned Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. It is commercial-free and offers local and national programming. It is available on AM and FM to 98 percent of Canadians and overseas over the Internet, and through mobile apps. CBC Radio One is simulcast across Canada on Bell Satellite TV satellite channels 956 and 953, and Shaw Direct satellite channel 870. A modified version of Radio One, with local content replaced by additional airings of national programming, is available on Sirius XM channel 169. Selkirk Communications
Selkirk Communications was a Canadian radio and television broadcasting company, which operated from 1959 to 1989. Evolving out of Taylor, Pearson & Carson, a local broadcaster in Vancouver founded in 1934, the company grew to own 14 radio stations, six television stations (three wholly owned and three partially owned) and cable television holdings across Canada and the world. Selkirk was eventually acquired by Maclean-Hunter in 1988. When the sale was finalized the following year, Maclean-Hunter sold almost all of the company's broadcast properties to WIC and Rogers Communications, retaining ownership only of Selkirk's cable holdings and one radio station. Maclean-Hunter was itself acquired by Rogers in 1994. Rogers Radio is a division of Rogers Sports & Media (a subsidiary of Rogers Communications) that specializes in the radio broadcasting industry. Rogers Radio is Canada's fourth-largest commercial radio broadcaster after Stingray Radio, Vista Radio and Bell Media Radio, the fifth being Corus, and the largest based in Ontario. As of January 2015, the company owns and operates 52 radio stations (44 FM and 8 AM) in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Ontario. They had previously owned two stations in New Brunswick; however, they were sold to other companies in 2015. On November 22, 2024, Rogers Sports & Media announced that it would sell three stations— CJDL-FM and CKOT-FM in Tillsonburg, and CJET-FM in Smiths Falls—to My Broadcasting Corporation pending CRTC approval. CFRV-FM (107.7 MHz) is a radio station licensed to Lethbridge, Alberta. Owned by Rogers Radio, a division of Rogers Sports & Media, the station broadcasts an adult contemporary format branded as ''KiSS 107.7''. History The station first signed on the air on August 28, 1959 at 100.9 FM under its original call letters CHEC-FM. The station's call letters were changed to CILA in 1979 and increased its power to 100,000 watts. In 1980, the station moved to its current frequency. In 1992, the station adopted its current call letters. The station had a hot adult contemporary format until 2007 when the station shifted to adult contemporary, the station's format change to adult contemporary occurred around the same time CJBZ-FM shifted from adult hits to CHR/Top 40. The Trans-Canada Network was the name assigned to the main English-language radio network of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to distinguish it from the CBC's second network, the Dominion Network. Today, it is known as CBC Radio One.
