BiFest
A BiFest is a one-day festival celebrating bisexuality, usually with workshops and discussions during the day and social events in the evening, complementing the larger convention BiCon. Currently there have been at least sixteen BiFests around the UK since 1999, with the busiest attracting around 130 people. The content of each BiFest differs, dependent on the wishes of the organisers. Features that have been consistent so far include a basic introduction to bisexuality, useful literature, people to chat to, arts/crafts and cake. Other sessions such as activism, fun and games and flirting tend to pop up fairly regularly. Everyone is welcome, whether they are bi, bicurious, partners, friends or allies of bi people provided they are open and accepting of other attendees. Access for those with impaired mobility or with children will differ for each BiFest, so please check in advance. BiCon (UK)
The UK BiCon (more formally known as the UK National Bisexual Convention or UK National Bisexual Conference), is the largest and most consistent annual gathering of the United Kingdom's bisexual community. While the format does vary, the typical format is a long weekend over four days consisting of workshops, discussions, meetings and social events. Although being billed as a "bisexual" event, it is open to partners of bisexuals, supporters, non-bisexuals, non-definers, and anyone else interested in issues relevant to bisexuals. To that extent it can often be characterised as a nexus of the sexual freedom and queer movements. Each BiCon event usually attracts between 200 and 400 people. Student Central was a students' facility of the University of London. Royal Albion Hotel
The Royal Albion Hotel (originally the Albion Hotel) is a 3-star hotel in the seaside resort of Brighton, part of the English city of Brighton and Hove. Built on the site of a house belonging to Richard Russell, a local doctor whose advocacy of sea-bathing and seawater drinking helped to make Brighton fashionable in the 18th century, it has been extended several times, although it experienced a period of rundown and closure in the early 20th century. Doggett's Coat And Badge
Doggett's Coat and Badge is the prize and name for the oldest rowing race in the world. Up to six apprentice watermen of the River Thames in England compete for this prestigious honour, which has been held every year since 1715. The 4 mile 5 furlongs (7.44 km) race is rowed on the River Thames upstream from London Bridge to Cadogan Pier, Chelsea, passing under a total of eleven bridges. Originally, it was raced every 1 August against the outgoing (falling or ebb) tide, in the boats used by watermen to ferry passengers across the Thames. Today it is raced at a time amenable to spectators, in September, that coincides with the incoming (rising or flood) tide, in contemporary single sculling boats.
