Belgrade Military Parade
The Belgrade Military Parade, known as ''Korak pobednika'' ("Step/March of the Victor"), was a military parade on Nikola Tesla Boulevard on 16 October 2014, during the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade. The city was liberated from the hands of the Nazis by the Yugoslav Partisans with the help of the Red Army during the Belgrade Offensive on 20 October 1944. It was the first military parade in the country for 30 years, and included 4,500 Serbian troops, as well as a minor number of Russian troops and the Russian aerobatic team, Swifts. President Tomislav Nikolić and Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić attended the parade, with Russian President Vladimir Putin attending as the guest of honour. The military history of Serbia spans over 1200 years on the Balkan peninsula during the various forms of the Serbian state and Serbian military. Historical preview Middle Ages The Serbian army in the Middle Ages was primarily consisted of light cavalry and infantry force armed with spear, javelin or bows. With the increasing wealth from mining, mercenary knights were recruited to complement noble cavalry armed with bow and lance. This enabled the Serbs to fight effectively outwith their mountain strongholds. The core of the army consisted of noble cavalry (vlastela) armed with lance and bow in the Byzantine style in early medieval time. These were increasingly supplemented by western style knights, mostly Germans (in Emperor Dušan reign). 63rd Parachute Battalion
The 63rd Parachute Brigade ( sr, 63. падобранска бригада, 63. padobranska brigada) is an airborne and special reconnaissance unit, one of two special forces brigades (other being 72nd Brigade for Special Operations) of the Serbian Armed Forces. It is under the command of the General Staff and is based at Niš Air Base. Formed in 1953, it was the elite unit of both Yugoslav People's Army and Armed Forces of Serbia and Montenegro. Serbian Guards Unit Band
The Band of the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces ( sr, Репрезентативни оркестар Гарде Војске Србије, Reprezentativni orkestar Garde Vojske Srbije) is the official representative military band of the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces and the Serbian Armed Forces in general. It provides musical support to the President of Serbia and the Serbian General Staff. History The first military band in Serbia was founded in 1831 by decree of Prince Miloš Obrenović under the title of ''Knjaževsko–Serbska Banda''.
