Bascov is a commune in Argeș County, Muntenia, Romania. It is composed of eight villages: Bascov, Brăileni, Glâmbocu, Mica, Prislopu Mic, Schiau, Uiasca, and Valea Ursului. The commune lies on the , an area of foothills leading up to the Southern Carpathians. It is located northwest of Pitești, on the river Bascov, as it discharges into the Argeș. Asociația Club Sportiv Unirea Bascov, commonly known as Unirea Bascov, is a Romanian professional football club based in Bascov, Argeș County and currently playing in the Liga III. History The club was founded in 2007 as ''AS Valea Ursului''. In 2014, the team merged with ''AS Bascov'' to formed Unirea Bascov. In the 2014–15 season, led by coach Alin Lipa, the team won the county championship, but missed the promotion in Liga III, after being defeated 4–2 on aggregate by FC Aninoasa, the champion of Dâmbovița County. The Argeș () is a river in Southern Romania, a left tributary of the Danube. It is long, and its basin area is . Its source is in the Făgăraș Mountains, in the Southern Carpathians and it flows into the Danube at Oltenița. Its average discharge at the mouth is . The main city on the Argeș is Pitești. Upstream, it is retained by the Vidraru Dam, which has created Lake Vidraru. Its upper course, upstream of Lake Vidraru, is also called ''Capra''. Name The river is believed to be the same as Ὀρδησσός ''Ordessus'', a name mentioned by Ancient Greek historian Herodotus. The etymology of Argeș is not clear. Pitești
Pitești () is a city in Romania, located on the river Argeș. The capital and largest city of Argeș County, it is an important commercial and industrial center, as well as the home of two universities. Pitești is situated in the historical region of Muntenia. It lies on the A1 freeway connecting the city directly to the national capital Bucharest, being an important railway junction, with a classification yard in nearby Bălilești. The city houses the Arpechim oil refinery, and is a marketing center for the automotive industry, in particular, Automobile Dacia.
