Bill Lloyd (tennis)
William Lloyd (born 7 May 1949) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Biography Lloyd, who was born in Sydney, won the junior doubles title at the 1968 Australian Championships, partnering Phil Dent. He joined the University of Southern Illinois in 1969 where he played collegiate tennis and he spent the 1970s competing on the professional circuit, as well as World TeamTennis. During his career he competed in the main draw of all four grand slam tournaments. He lost a marathon match at the 1972 Wimbledon Championships to Wanaro N'Godrella, 9–11 in the fifth set. At the 1975 US Open he and Phil Dent had a win over Björn Borg and Rod Laver en route to the quarter-finals. Trish Bostrom
Patricia Lynn Bostrom (born November 25, 1951) is an American former professional tennis player. She is better known as Trish Bostrom and after tennis became a lawyer in Washington. Bostrom grew up in West Seattle and attended the University of Washington, winning the Pac-8 singles title in 1972. While at the university she was an advocate for gender equality in collegiate sports and successfully sued to be able to try out for a spot on the men's tennis team. Graduating from the University of Washington in 1972, Bostrom competed on the professional tour for the remainder of the 1970s and played five seasons of World TeamTennis. Rod Laver
Rodney George Laver (born 9 August 1938) is an Australian former tennis player. Laver was the world number 1 ranked professional in some sources in 1964, in all sources from 1965 to 1969 and in some sources in 1970, spanning four years before and three years after the start of the Open Era in 1968. He was also ranked the world number 1 amateur in 1961 by Lance Tingay and 1962 by Tingay and Ned Potter. Laver's 200 singles titles are the most in tennis history. This included his all-time men's record of 10 or more titles per year for seven consecutive years (1964–1970). He excelled on all of the court surfaces of his time: grass, clay, hard, carpet, and wood. Björn Borg
Björn Rune Borg (; born 6 June 1956) is a Swedish former world No. 1 tennis player. Between 1974 and 1981, he became the first man in the Open Era to win 11 Grand Slam singles titles with six at the French Open and five consecutively at Wimbledon. Borg won four consecutive French Open titles (1978–81) and is 6–0 in French Open finals. He was the first man since 1886 to contest six consecutive Wimbledon finals, a record surpassed by Roger Federer's seven consecutive finals (2003–09). He is the only man to achieve the Channel Slam three times. Borg contested the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open finals in the same year three times (1978, 1980–81). Wanaro N'Godrella
Wanaro N'Godrella (18 October 1949 – 26 May 2016) was a French tennis player who was active in the late 1960s and the 1970s. His best performance at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the quarterfinals of the singles' event at the 1973 Australian Open in which he was defeated by Karl Meiler in four sets. In 1973 and 1974 he played a doubles match for the French Davis Cup team. He reached the highest singles ranking of No. 71 in October 1973. 1972 Wimbledon Championships
The 1972 Wimbledon Championships was a tennis tournament that took place on the outdoor grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom. The tournament was scheduled to be held from Monday 26 June until Saturday 8 July 1972 but rain on the final Saturday meant that the men's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles finals were played on Sunday 9 July. It was the first time in the tournament's history that finals were played on a Sunday. It was the 86th staging of the Wimbledon Championships, and the third Grand Slam tennis event of 1972. World TeamTennis (WTT) is a mixed-gender professional tennis league played with a team format in the United States, which was founded in 1973. The league's season normally takes place in the summer months. Players from the ATP and WTA take a break from their tour schedules to partake in World TeamTennis.
