David Benjamin "Ben" DeSmidt is an American educator, small business owner, and Democratic politician from Kenosha, Wisconsin. He is a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Wisconsin's 65th Assembly district since 2025. Biography Born in Wisconsin, DeSmidt earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago, and obtained his M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York. The 65th Assembly district of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in southeast Wisconsin, the district comprises part of southeast Kenosha County, including the southern half of the city of Kenosha and the northern half of the village of Pleasant Prairie. WRJN (1400 AM) is a full service oldies radio station in Racine, Wisconsin, serving Racine and Kenosha Counties. The station is owned by Civic Media, Inc., along with sister station WAUK in Milwaukee. WRJN features live sports including Green Bay Packers football, Milwaukee Brewers baseball and University of Wisconsin Badgers games. 2024 Wisconsin State Assembly Election
The 2024 Wisconsin State Assembly election was held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, alongside 2024 Wisconsin Senate election, elections for the State Senate. All 99 seats in the Wisconsin State Assembly were up for election. The primary election was held on August 13, 2024. The filing deadline to appear on the ballot was June 3, 2024. Prior to the election, 64 Assembly seats were held by Republicans, 34 seats were held by Democrats, with one seat, formerly held by a Democrat, vacant. The race for chamber control was considered far more competitive in this cycle than at any point in the past decade. The Wisconsin Elections Commission is a bipartisan regulatory agency of the state of Wisconsin established to administer and enforce election laws in the state. The Wisconsin Elections Commission was established by a 2015 act of the Wisconsin Legislature which also established the Wisconsin Ethics Commission to administer campaign finance, ethics, and lobbying laws. The two commissions began operation on June 30, 2016, replacing the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB), which was abolished.
