Arnoia (river)
The River Arnoia ( es, río Arnoia) is a tributary of the río Miño in Galicia, northwest Spain. At 84.5 kilometers, it is the longest river in the province of Ourense. The Spanish wine ''denominación de origen protegida'' of Ribeiro DOP is located at the confluences of the valleys formed by the rivers Miño, Avia, and Arnoia. Etymology The name ''territorio Arnogie'' (Arnogie territory) was first documented in 889 and ''fluvio Arnogie'' (Arnogie River) in 936. According to E. Bascuas, the toponym "Arnoia" would be derived from the Paleo-European base * Ar-n-, derived from the Indo-European root * er- 'flow, move', with hydronymic significance. Allariz
Allariz is a town and municipality (in ) in the province of Ourense, Autonomous Community of Galicia, Spain. It occupies the center of the western half of the province, connecting with the towns (''concellos'') of Taboadela, Paderne, Sandiás, Vilar de Santos, Rairiz de Veiga, Xunqueira de Ambía, A Merca and A Bola. The area of the municipality is 85,3 km² and there are 6.188 inhabitants in 16 parishes. The hydrographic system is made up of the River Arnoia, which crosses the municipality from east to west. The Minho ( , ) or Miño ( , , ; cel-x-proto, Miniu) is the longest river in Galicia, sharing the border with Portugal, with a length of . By discharge, it is the fourth river of the Iberian peninsula, after the Douro, Ebro, and Tagus. Ribeiro is a Spanish Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) (''Denominación de Orixe Protexida'' in Galician) for wines located in the northwest of the province of Ourense ( Galicia, Spain), in the valleys formed by the rivers Miño, Arnoia, and Avia. It has an area of 30 km2 including 9 municipalities in their entirety and parts of four others. History Ribeiro has a long tradition of producing and exporting wine from the Galician Atlantic ports. It is believed that the first vineyards were planted by the ancient Romans. From the Middle Ages up to the 18th century, the area was renowned for its sweet wines (''vinos tostados''), which were produced here long before they were produced in the Canary Islands or in Andalusia. Avia (river)
The Avia River is a tributary of the Miño River with a length of . It begins in the serra of the Suído at a height of in the place called Fonte Avia (municipality of Avión). It follows an SO-NL direction after arriving to the artificial lake of Albarellos, between the municipalities of Leiro, Boborás and Avión. After the artificial lake it continues until Boborás, turning there in SL direction. It flows in Ribadavia. Its tributaries include the Maquiáns River, Viñao River, and Arenteiro River, and it runs past the communities of Boborás, Leiro, and Ribadavia.
