Armenak Ghazarian
Hrayr Dzhoghk (, ''Hrayr The Hell''; 1864–13 April 1904), born (Armenak Ghazarian hy, Արմենակ Ղազարյան), also known as Hrair, Hrayr, Tjokhk, Djohkh, Dzhokhk, was an Armenian military leader and strategist, fedayee, statesman and teacher, part of the Armenian national liberation movement. He was a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation. Life He was born as Armenak Ghazarian in Aharonk, a village in the Western Armenian Taron canton of Turuberan province. His father was priest ''Mamprè Ghazarian''. Armenak was graduated from the school of Surb Karapet Monastery in Mush during the late 1880s. Later, he studied at the United Armenian College of Mush. He was deeply influenced by the revolutionary ideas of his teacher ''Mkrtich Saryan''. After his graduation, Armenak has worked as a teacher in the Armenian schools of Sasun and Taron. Droshak
''Droshak'' (''Troshag'', hy, Դրօշակ, "Flag") is the official organ of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) published in Tiflis (1890), Balkans (1890s), Geneva (1892-1914), Paris (1925-33), Beirut (1969-85), Athens (1986-96), Yerevan (since 1999). It was first published in 1890 by ARF founder Christapor Mikaelian as a monthly, then as a bi-monthly, bi-weekly, and weekly. The 1896 Defense of Van or Van Rebellion was a revolt by the Armenian population in Van against the armed forces of the Ottoman Empire in June 1896 during the Hamidian massacres. Background The Van region had avoided the earlier stages of the Hamidian massacres in 1895. However, by January 1896 there was increasing violence – a report by the British vice-consul in Van, W. H. Williams, said that many Armenian villages had been looted and "Armenians are everywhere in a state bordering on panic, afraid lest the spring will bring still further disasters". Erzurum
Erzurum (; ) is a city in eastern Anatolia, Turkey. It is the largest city and capital of Erzurum Province and is 1,900 meters (6,233 feet) above sea level.
