Anaal Nathrakh
Anaal Nathrakh are a British extreme metal band formed in 1999 in Birmingham by multi-instrumentalist Mick Kenney and vocalist Dave Hunt. They are currently signed to Metal Blade Records. The band's name is Irish for ''snake's breath'' ( anál nathrach) and was taken from Merlin's Charm of Making in John Boorman's 1981 film ''Excalibur''. The band recorded two demos in 1999, which were later released as an album. The band has released eleven studio albums, one EP, and one compilation album. The band has been praised for mixing elements of grindcore, black metal, death metal, industrial, and other genres. History The band took their founding cues from Norwegian black metal bands such as Mayhem, Burzum, and Darkthrone. Domine Non Es Dignus
''Domine Non Es Dignus'' is the second studio album by British extreme metal group Anaal Nathrakh. It was released on 2 November 2004. The title translates to "Lord, you are not worthy" in Latin. Background The title "Rage, Rage Against the Dying of the Light" comes from the Dylan Thomas poem " Do not go gentle into that good night". The album features sound samples from films such as ''Hellraiser'' ("Revaluation of All Values …") and ''1984'' ("Do Not Speak"). The title "Procreation of the Wretched" is a tribute to Celtic Frost and their track "Procreation of the Wicked". The title "Revaluation of All Values …" is in reference to the transvaluation of all values (''Umwertung aller Werte''), a central concept in the philosophical project of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, which includes reevaluating humility and poverty as being virtuous in value systems such as Christianity. Dave Hunt (musician)
Dave Hunt is an English extreme metal vocalist. He is the vocalist of Anaal Nathrakh under the pseudonym V.I.T.R.I.O.L., ( la, Visita Interiora Terræ Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem, lit=Visit the interior of the earth, and by rectifying, you will discover the hidden stone), a phrase found in alchemical literature which purports to be the origin of the name of vitriol. He was also the vocalist of Mistress under the pseudonym Dave Cunt until their split in March 2008. Notably, Dave Hunt's lyrics for his main band, Anaal Nathrakh, are never released or published in album liner notes. The one known exception is the song "Tod Huetet Uebel" from '' Passion'', which was written as a collaboration with Rainer Landfermann, best known for his vocal work on the Bethlehem album '' Dictius Te Necare''. Merlin
Merlin ( cy, Myrddin, kw, Marzhin, br, Merzhin) is a mythical figure prominently featured in the legend of King Arthur and best known as a mage, with several other main roles. His usual depiction, based on an amalgamation of historic and legendary figures, was introduced by the 12th-century British author Geoffrey of Monmouth. Eschaton (album)
''Eschaton'' is the third studio album by British extreme metal band Anaal Nathrakh. Musically, the album continues in the vein of the previous album, ''Domine Non Es Dignus''. Some reviewers have commented that the overall atmosphere and production are at the same time a step back towards the out-and-out ferocity of the band's debut. The album features guest appearances by Shane Embury (Embryonymous) on bass, and Attila Csihar (from Mayhem) performs vocals on "Regression to the Mean". Background The album cover art resembles parts of the Mandelbrot set. "The Necrogeddon" is a re-recording from ''Total Fucking Necro''. Blackened death metal (also known as black death metal) is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal that fuses elements of black metal and death metal. The genre emerged in early 1990s when black metal bands began incorporating elements of death metal and vice versa. Darkthrone
Darkthrone is a Norwegian extreme metal band from Kolbotn, Akershus. Formed in 1986 as a death metal band named Black Death, in 1991 Darkthrone embraced a black metal style influenced by Bathory and Celtic Frost and became one of the leading bands in the Norwegian black metal scene. Burzum
Burzum (; ) was a Norwegian music project founded by Varg Vikernes in 1991. Although Burzum never played live performances, it became a part of the early Norwegian black metal scene and is considered one of the most influential acts in black metal's history. Mayhem (band)
Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in Langhus in 1984. They were one of the founders of the Norwegian black metal scene and their music has strongly influenced the black metal genre. Mayhem's early career was highly controversial, primarily due to their notorious live performances, the 1991 suicide of vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin ("Dead") and the 1993 murder of guitarist Øystein Aarseth ("Euronymous") by former member Varg Vikernes ("Count Grishnackh") of Burzum. Industrial music is a genre of music that draws on harsh, mechanical, transgressive or provocative sounds and themes.
