All India Konkani Parishad
The All India Konkani Parishad is a national conference held in India. It is meant to support the Konkani people and Konkani language, and conducts various activities to achieve that goal, aided by local authorities History The Konkani Parishad was launched when India's struggle for freedom was at its peak. The organisation was founded by the late Madhav Manjunath Shanbhague of Kumta, Karnataka, on 8 July 1939. It shifted to Goa, the homeland of Konkani, in 1961 when the territory was liberated from Portuguese rulers. At present, it functions from Goa as the national apex body to which 16 regional/local associations are affiliated and works for the development of Konkani language, literature, culture, education, etc. across the country. The Konkan people ( Konkani) Konkanis : are an Indo-Aryan ethnolinguistic group native to the Konkan region of the Indian subcontinent who speak various dialects of the Konkani language. Konkani is the state language of Goa and also spoken by populations in coastal Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra, and Kerala. Other Konkani speakers are found in Gujarat state. Uday Bhembre
Uday Bhembre is an Indian lawyer, Konkani writer and a former member of the Goa Legislative Assembly. He is noted for his role as the editor of the Konkani daily, '' Sunaparant'', and as a Konkani language activist. Bhembre is also widely known as the lyricist of the famed Goan Konkani language song Channeache Rati. Early life Uday Bhembre was born in Zambaulim, a village in South Goa. He is the son of eminent freedom fighter Laxmikant Bhembre. Education After his early education in Goa, Bhembre went to Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1957 pursuing higher education. Bhembre is an alumnus of Mumbai's Siddharth College. He joined Mumbai's Akashvani (radio broadcaster) centre and became a lyricist. Bhembre is a lawyer by profession. Basti Vaman Shenoy
Basti Vaman Madhav Shenoy (6 November 1934 – 2 January 2022) was an Indian Konkani activist popularly known as ''Vishwa Konkani Sardar'' (World Konkani Leader) and was the founder of World Konkani Centre in Shakthinagar, Mangalore. Early life Basti Vaman Shenoy was born on 6 November 1934 in Bantwal, a town in Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka. His father Basti Madhav Shenoy, popularly known as Motra Madhav, was booking agent of the CPC Bus Service of Mangalore. Vaman Shenoy's mother was Gowri alias Bhagirathi. He passed out of Tenth Standard (SSLC) in 1952 from the SVS High School in Bantwal. He wanted to pursue higher education and become a teacher but due to his family conditions he had to leave school and join his father to help in his business. Tanaji Halarnkar
Tanaji Halarnkar (September 18, 1943 – October 19, 2020) was a Konkani scholar, columnist and former editor of the ''Konkani Encyclopedia'' ( Konkani Vishwakosh). Halarnkar played a prominent role in the pro- Konkani language agitation in the Goa of the 1980s, and also in the wider movement for the promotion of the Konkani language in Goa and other parts of western coastal India. His other contributions include helping develop scientific and technical terminology for Konkani. He was involved with organising Konkani literary events, authored books, and did his Ph.D. on the ''gram panchayats'' (village councils) of Goa. Contribution Following his death in October 2020, the ''Times of India'' credited him with having spent "12 years of his life in hepreparation of the Konkani encyclopedia".
