''Aleteia'' is an online Catholic news and information website founded in 2011/2012 by Jesús Colina via the Foundation for Evangelization through the Media. It has the approval of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization. The President of the foundation is Olivier Bonnassies, Bruno Riviere de Precourt. Members and Paolo Padrini are active in managing the Spanish site. The English site is operated under Editor-in-Chief Fr Patrick Mary Briscoe, OP. The organization is based in France but operates in different languages and states worldwide. Jesús Colina
Jesús Colina (born 1969 in Miranda de Ebro) is a Spanish journalist who worked in Rome. He led the Zenit News Agency, and currently directs the Aleteia newspaper. In 1991 he was the editor of ''Proyección Mundial'', then Catholic World Report and ''Le Temps de l'Eglise'' in France. From 1994, he has been correspondent in Rome for ''Alfa y Omega'', weekly supplement of ABC (newspaper), ABC Spanish newspaper. He wrote also for oAvvenire and National Catholic Register. In 1997 founded Zenit News Agency, a catholic news agency. In 1998 worked at the Digital Network of the Church in Latin America, RIIAL. In 2011 he was dismissed from Zenit by the Legion of Christ, Legionaries to give the media a more institutional identity. In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him consultor to the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. The Pontifical Council for Social Communications ( la, Pontificium Consilium de Communicationibus Socialibus) was a dicastery of the Roman Curia that was suppressed in March 2016 and merged into the Secretariat for Communications (now " Dicastery for Communication"). According to '' Pastor bonus'', Pope John Paul II's 1988 apostolic constitution on the Roman Curia, the council was "involved in questions regarding the means of social communication, so that, also by these means, human progress and the message of salvation may benefit secular culture and mores."
