Angela Stroud
Angela Stroud (born 1981) is an American educator, author, and Democratic politician from Ashland, Wisconsin. She is a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, and represents Wisconsin's 73rd Assembly district since January 2025. Early life and career Stroud was born in McAllen, Texas, a city roughly ten miles north of the Mexican city of Reynosa, on January 24, 1981. During her childhood, she and her family would cross the border into Mexico at various times to shop and dine and often encountered extreme poverty among the populace in both the United States and Mexico. In her youth, she attended McAllen High School, graduating in 1999. For the next four years, she attended Southwestern University, where she got a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and gender studies, graduating in 2003. For the next 9 years, she attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a M.A. in sociology in 2006 and a PhD in sociology in 2012. The 73rd Assembly district of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in the northwest corner of Wisconsin, the district comprises parts of northern Douglas County, Wisconsin, Douglas County, northern Bayfield County, Wisconsin, Bayfield County, and northern Ashland County, Wisconsin, Ashland County. The Wisconsin Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The 2024 Wisconsin State Assembly election was held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, alongside 2024 Wisconsin Senate election, elections for the State Senate. All 99 seats in the Wisconsin State Assembly were up for election. The primary election was held on August 13, 2024. The filing deadline to appear on the ballot was June 3, 2024. Prior to the election, 64 Assembly seats were held by Republicans, 34 seats were held by Democrats, with one seat, formerly held by a Democrat, vacant. The race for chamber control was considered far more competitive in this cycle than at any point in the past decade. The Wisconsin Elections Commission is a bipartisan regulatory agency of the state of Wisconsin established to administer and enforce election laws in the state. The Wisconsin Elections Commission was established by a 2015 act of the Wisconsin Legislature which also established the Wisconsin Ethics Commission to administer campaign finance, ethics, and lobbying laws.
