Alfatar Peninsula
Alfatar Peninsula ( bg, полуостров Алфатар, poluostrov Alfatar, ) is a peninsula extending 4 km in northeast-southwest direction and 2.8 km wide, forming the northwest extremity of Robert Island, South Shetland Islands. Bounded by Mitchell Cove, Carlota Cove, and Clothier Harbour. Linked to the 1.7 km long and 500 m wide Coppermine Peninsula to the west. The Onogur island group lies along the peninsula's northwest coast. Bulgarian early mapping in 2009. The feature is named after the town of Alfatar in northeastern Bulgaria. Map * L.L. Ivanov. Robert Island
Robert Island or Mitchells Island or Polotsk Island or Roberts Island is an island long and wide, situated between Nelson Island and Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Robert Island is located at . Surface area . The name "Robert Island" dates back to around 1821 and is now established in international usage. Much of the Coppermine Peninsula in the west of the island is made up by a perched strandflat surface that was in past at sea level. Captain Richard Fildes may have named Robert Island for his brig . Fildes was sealing in the South Shetlands in 1821–1822 until ice destroyed his vessel in March 1822. Fildes Strait is named for him. South Shetland Islands
The South Shetland Islands are a group of Antarctic islands with a total area of . They lie about north of the Antarctic Peninsula, and between southwest of the nearest point of the South Orkney Islands. By the Antarctic Treaty of 1959, the islands' sovereignty is neither recognized nor disputed by the signatories and they are free for use by any signatory for non-military purposes. The islands have been claimed by the United Kingdom since 1908 and as part of the British Antarctic Territory since 1962. They are also claimed by the governments of Chile (since 1940, as part of the Antártica Chilena province) and Argentina (since 1943, as part of Argentine Antarctica, Tierra del Fuego Province). Mitchell Cove
Mitchell Cove is the 2.8 km wide bay indenting for 3 km the southwest coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica southeast of Alfatar Peninsula, and entered between Debelyanov Point and Negra Point. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers. The feature is named after James Mitchell, co-owner of the British cutter ''Beaufoy'' under Captain James Weddell that visited the South Shetlands in 1823–24. Carlota Cove
Carlota Cove is the 1.9 km wide cove indenting for 1.14 km the northwest coast of Alfatar Peninsula, Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica next east of Coppermine Peninsula, and entered between Fort William and Misnomer Point. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers operating from neighbouring Clothier Harbour. The feature was surveyed and named by the 1949 Chilean Antarctic Expedition under Captain Leopoldo Fontaine. Clothier Harbour
Clothier Harbour is the 1.5 km wide bay indenting for 1 km the north coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica between Hammer Point on the northeast and Onogur Islands on the southwest. The harbour was used as a safe base by American sealing ships in 1820–21. The bay was discovered, charted and named by American sealers after the vessel ''Clothier'' under Captain Clark, which sank there in December 1820. Coppermine Peninsula
Coppermine Peninsula is the rugged, rocky promontory forming the northwest extremity of Alfatar Peninsula and Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It lies between the English Strait to the west and Carlota Cove to the east. It is 1.7 km long, 500 m wide and rising to 105 m. Coppermine Peninsula is linked to Alfatar Peninsula to the southeast by a narrow isthmus bounded by Carlota Cove to the north and the 1 km wide and 460 m indenting ''Coppermine Cove'' () to the south. The feature is named in association with the adjacent Coppermine Cove, a descriptive name given by sealers in about 1821 from the copper-coloured staining of the lavas and tuffs in the area. Onogur Islands
Onogur Islands ( bg, Оногурски острови, ‘Onogurski ostrovi’ \o-no-'gur-ski 'os-tro-vi\) is the group of nine islands and some islets and rocks adjacent to the northwest coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The group is situated between Carlota Cove to the southwest and Clothier Harbour to the northeast, and southeast of Cornwall Island.
