Ailsa Bay distillery is a Lowland whisky distillery located in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The distillery is owned by William Grant & Sons. History The Ailsa Bay Malt Whisky Distillery was built by the William Grant & Sons company to meet their needs for malt whisky for their blended whiskies. The distillery was built near the site of the Girvan distillery. It was officially founded in 2007. The opening was attended by Prince Charles in 2009. In March 2019, Ailsa Bay released a new brand of scotch whisky which was protected with blockchain technology to prevent counterfeiting. In September 2019, Ailsa Bay released Aerstone, a new brand of single malt scotch whisky. Lowland single malts are single malt whiskies distilled in Scotland's Scottish Lowlands, lowlands. Single malt Scotch refers to single malt whisky made in Scotland. To qualify for this category, a whisky must have been distilled at a single distillery using a pot still distillation process and made from a mash of malted barley. Therefore, a single malt means that the whisky has not been blended elsewhere with whisky from other distilleries. Balvenie distillery is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in Dufftown, Scotland. Is owned by William Grant & Sons. History William Grant was born on 19 December 1839 in his father's house in Dufftown. At seven he began herding cattle at a farm on the upper reaches of the River Deveron. He was apprenticed to a shoemaker then worked as a clerk, and then became a bookkeeper at Mortlach distillery 1866. There he was appointed as a clerk and then manager and learned the distilling trade. After about twenty years, Grant left his job at the Mortlach distillery and bought a field near Balvenie Castle.
