Aegisub is a subtitle editing application. It is the main tool used for fansubbing, the practice of creating or translating unofficial subtitles for visual media by fans. It is the successor of the original SubStation Alpha and Sabbu. Aegisub's design emphasizes timing, styling of subtitles, and the creation of karaoke videos. It allows for many video processing bindings to process the timing, such as FFmpeg and AviSynth. It can also be extended with the Lua and MoonScript scripting languages. The app's native subtitle format is Advanced SubStation Alpha, which supports subtitle positioning and styling. Aegisub can export subtitles to other common formats as well, such as SubRip's ".srt" format, but at the cost of losing all other features except for raw text and basic timing. In fansubbing, Aegisub is used when translating and interpreting languages, creating and adjusting timing, editing subtitles, typesetting, quality checking, karaoke lyric timing and karaoke text ef ...

Lua (programming Language)
Lua is a lightweight, high-level, multi-paradigm programming language designed mainly for embedded use in applications. Lua is cross-platform software, since the interpreter of compiled bytecode is written in ANSI C, and Lua has a relatively simple C application programming interface ( API) to embed it into applications. Lua originated in 1993 as a language for extending software applications to meet the increasing demand for customization at the time. It provided the basic facilities of most procedural programming languages, but more complicated or domain-specific features were not included; rather, it included mechanisms for extending the language, allowing programmers to implement such features. As Lua was intended to be a general embeddable extension language, the designers of Lua focused on improving its speed, portability, extensibility and ease-of-use in development. History Lua was created in 1993 by Roberto Ierusalimschy, Luiz Henrique de Figueiredo and Wa ...

Translation Software
Machine translation is use of computational techniques to translation, translate text or speech from one language to another, including the contextual, idiomatic and pragmatic nuances of both languages. Early approaches were mostly Rule-based machine translation, rule-based or Statistical machine translation, statistical. These methods have since been superseded by neural machine translation and Large language model, large language models. History Origins The origins of machine translation can be traced back to the work of Al-Kindi, a ninth-century Arabic cryptographer who developed techniques for systemic language translation, including cryptanalysis, frequency analysis, and probability and statistics, which are used in modern machine translation. The idea of machine translation later appeared in the 17th century. In 1629, René Descartes proposed a universal language, with equivalent ideas in different tongues sharing one symbol. The idea of using digital computers for tra ...

Typesetting
Typesetting is the composition of text for publication, display, or distribution by means of arranging physical ''type'' (or ''sort'') in mechanical systems or '' glyphs'' in digital systems representing '' characters'' (letters and other symbols).Dictionary.com Unabridged. Random House, Inc. 23 December 2009Dictionary.reference.com/ref> Stored types are retrieved and ordered according to a language's orthography for visual display. Typesetting requires one or more fonts (which are widely but erroneously confused with and substituted for typefaces). One significant effect of typesetting was that authorship of works could be spotted more easily, making it difficult for copiers who have not gained permission. Pre-digital era Manual typesetting During much of the letterpress era, movable type was composed by hand for each page by workers called compositors. A tray with many dividers, called a case, contained cast metal '' sorts'', each with a single letter or symbol, bu ...

SubRip
SubRip is a free software program for Microsoft Windows which extracts subtitles and their timings from various video formats to a text file. It is released under the GNU GPL. Its subtitle format's file extension is .srt and is widely supported. Each .srt file is a human-readable file format where the subtitles are stored sequentially along with the timing information. Most subtitles distributed on the Internet are in this format. Software Using optical character recognition, SubRip can extract from live video, video files and DVDs, then record the extracted subtitles and timings as a ''Subrip format'' text file. It can optionally save the recognized subtitles as bitmaps for later subtraction (erasure) from the source video. In practice, SubRip is configured with the correct codec for the video source, then trained by the user on the specific text area, fonts, styles, colors and video processing requirementsZuggy, Guide. to recognize subtitles.
