Adam Baworowski
Count Adam Baworowski (; 9 August 1913 – 1943) was an Austrian-Polish tennis player. Biography Early life and family Count Adam Baworowski descended from the Polish noble family '' Baworowski''. He was the son of Count Rudolf Baworow-Baworowski (1865-1931) and Austrian Countess Maria Chorinsky von Ledske (1876-1963), the former who was the Chamberlain of Franz Joseph I of Austria and had estates in Lviv and where Adam often spent his childhood years. He had three brothers and three sisters, Emil, Stefan, Rudolf, Matylda, Marya and Franciszka. He went to school in Vienna and as the family spoke German at home Adam was alienated from his Polish roots in the beginning. He started playing tennis at a very early age and started taking coaching lessons from the Van Dycków brothers. The Prater () is a large public park in Leopoldstadt, Vienna, Austria. Hans Redl (January 19, 1914 – May 26, 1976) was an Austrian tennis player and administrator who played at the highest level despite the loss of his left arm in World War II. Biography Born in Vienna on January 19, 1914, he rose to become one of Austria's best tennis players in the late 1930s. He made his debut in the Austrian Davis Cup team in 1937, scoring his country's only point in their 3–1 defeat by Germany. After the annexation of Austria by the German Reich in 1938, Redl was conscripted into the German army and was sent to the Eastern Front. During the Siege of Stalingrad he was badly wounded and had his left arm amputated at the shoulder. George Patrick Hughes (21 December 1902 – 8 May 1997) was an English tennis player. Hughes and Fred Perry won the doubles at the French Championships in 1933 and at the Australian Championships in 1934. Hughes later teamed up with Raymond Tuckey. They won the doubles in Wimbledon in 1936. Hughes reached the semi finals at Roland Garros in 1931, where he beat Vernon Kirby and George Lott before losing to Christian Boussus. Hermann Artens
Hermann von Artens (25 June 1904 – date of death unknown) was an Austrian tennis player. A native of Graz, Artens competed for the Austria Davis Cup team from 1927 to 1934, as the side's first ever Styrian representative. His regular Davis Cup teammate was Franz Matejka. Artens won the singles title at the South of France Championships in 1927 and made the fourth round of the French Championships on three occasions. Before Thomas Muster, he held the national record for most matches won at Roland Garros (15). He became the first Austrian to reach the Wimbledon fourth round in 1931 and was the 1934 All England Plate winner. In 1935 he won the singles and doubles titles at the Welsh Championships. Franz Wilhelm Matejka
Franz-Wilhelm Matejka (born 26 December 1896) was an Austrian tennis player. Matejka, a left-handed player from Vienna, represented Austria in the Davis Cup from 1927 to 1934. In a 1932 tie against Germany he held a match point against Gottfried von Cramm, before falling 6–8 in the fifth set. He had two Davis Cup wins over Roderich Menzel and beat Uberto De Morpurgo in 1933. A six-time national champion, he won the Austrian International Championship in 1934, defeating countryman Georg von Metaxa in the final.
