900 (skateboarding)
The 900 is a 2½-revolution (900 degrees) aerial spin performed on a skateboard ramp. While airborne, the skateboarder makes two-and-a-half turns about their longitudinal axis, thereby facing down when coming down. It is considered one of skateboarding's most technically demanding tricks. Performance by Tony Hawk Tony Hawk, one of the most successful vertical pro skateboarders in the world, landed the 900 at X Games V in 1999 after ten failed attempts. It was past regulation time but, as one announcer said, "We make up the rules as we go along. Let's give him another try." Other skaters protested, but Hawk continued. Hawk twice landed on his board, but it flew out from under him. When he finally completed the trick, his arms windmilled and his hand barely grazed the ramp. Nonetheless, he rode away. Turn (geometry)
A turn is a unit of plane angle measurement equal to radians, 360 degrees or 400 gradians. Subdivisions of a turn include half-turns, quarter-turns, centiturns, milliturns, etc. The closely related terms ''cycle'' and ''revolution'' are not equivalent to a turn. Fakie
In boardsports, fakie is riding backwards. When used in conjunction with a trick name, like "fakie ollie", it means that the trick was performed as it would normally be done only with the exception of riding backwards. Not to be confused with "switch" or switchstance which is literally "switching" ones stance (from either regular or goofy to the opposite). In snowboarding, riding with the weaker foot forward is called riding switch, and tricks done while switch are called switch tricks. The two terms are easily confused and often used interchangeably. In skateboarding, people will add "to fakie" at the end of the name if the rider does a revert or lands a slide in their switch stance when they went into the trick in their normal stance (e.g. frontside boardslide to fakie, backside tailslide to fakie, etc.). Bob Burnquist
Robert Dean Silva Burnquist (; born 10 October 1976) is a Brazilian-American professional skateboarder who competed for Brazil throughout his career. In 2010, he became the first skateboarder to land a "fakie 900" (900-degree reverse-natural rotation), making Burnquist the fifth person in history to successfully complete the 900 trick. Early life Burnquist was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to an American father of Swedish descent and a Brazilian mother. Gui Khury
Guilherme 'Gui' Khury (born 18 December 2008, in Curitiba, Brazil) is a Brazilian skateboarder. He is the first person to land a 1080 (three full revolutions) on a vertical ramp and the youngest person to win a gold medal at the X-Games. Khury also holds the record for being the youngest person ever to land a 900, which he landed at age 8, as well as for being the youngest person to compete at the X Games at the age of 10 years and 7 months. Aerials usually combine rotation with different grabs. Most of the different types of grabs were originally aerial tricks that were performed in ditches, empty pools, and vert ramps before flatground aerials became common.
