2014 Syrian Premier League
The 2014 Syrian Premier League season is the 43rd since its establishment. This seasons league featured two stages. Stage one pitted two groups of nine teams and kicked off on 2 February 2014. The top three of each group advanced to the Championship Playoff to determine the overall league champions. The bottom two of each group relegated to the second division. All matches were played in Damascus and Latakia due to security concerns. Syrian Premier League
The Syrian Premier League ( ar, الدوري السوري الممتاز) is a professional association football league in Syria and the top division in of the Syrian football league system. The league comprises 12 teams and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Syrian League 1st Division. The Syrian Premier League was founded in 1966, unifying the local leagues that had existed previously. Seasons mostly run from August to May. The first team to win the title was Al-Ittihad in 1967, whilst Al-Jaish has the record with 17 league titles. Their closest rivals, Al-Karamah, have won the league 8 times. In the beginning, the main tournament was the first division, then the SFA developed the competition in a historic step that allowed the participation of foreign players to turn the competition into a professional league. Al-Ittihad Aleppo
Al-Ittihad Sports Club of Aleppo ( ar, نادي الاتحاد الرياضي الحلبي) is a professional multi-sports club based in the Syrian city of Aleppo, mostly known for its football team which competes in the Syrian Premier League, the top league of Syrian football. Being one of the most successful clubs (after Al-Jaish, Al-Karamah SC) in Syrian football history, Al-Ittihad won six Syrian football league titles and ten Syrian cups. Al-Ittihad is a sole founding member of Syrian Premier League that has never been relegated from the top division since its debut in 1966. Khalid Ibn Al-Walid Stadium
Khalid ibn al-Walid Stadium () is a multi-use stadium located in the Syrian city of Homs. It is the 3rd-largest football stadium in Syria and is mostly used for football matches. It serves as a home ground of Al-Karamah SC and Al-Wathba SC and holds around 32,000 spectators. History The greater part of the necropolis of Tell Abu Sabun was made to disappear by 1952 in order to build the stadium. Through the efforts of Homs city council, the ground was opened in 1960 as a simple football field to be known as Homs Municipal Stadium. The stadium was also named Jura Abou-Saboun Stadium. In 1967, a small tribune of 2,000 spectators was built to host a small number of supporters. The Abbasiyyin Stadium ( ar, مَلْعَب ٱلْعَبَّاسِيِّين, Malʿab al-ʿAbbāsīyīn) is a multi-use all-seater stadium in Damascus, Syria, currently used mostly for football matches and serves as the home venue of the Syrian national team. The stadium which was built in 1976 is able to hold up to 30,000 spectators, being the 4th largest stadium in Syria. The Aleppo International Stadium ( ar, ملعب حلب الدولي) is an Olympic-standard, multi-use, all-covered and all-seater stadium in the Syrian city of Aleppo.
