2025 BAL Season
The 2025 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 5, will be the 5th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season will begin on 5 April and end on 14 June 2024 with the final. The playoffs and finals will be held in Pretoria, South Africa, for the first time. Petro de Luanda are the defending champions, having won the previous season. The winners will earn the right to play in the 2025 FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Venues The Moroccan Royal Basketball Federation (FRMBB) announced on 12 November 2024 that Rabat would be one of the host cities of the first phase of the 2025 season. On 21 November 2024, the BAL announced that the group phase would be hosted in three countries, as the Nile Conference is hosted at the Salle Moulay Abdellah in Rabat, Morocco, the Sahara Conference in Dakar Arena, Dakar, Senegal, and the Kalahari Conference in the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. Basketball Africa League
The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is Africa's premier men's basketball league. The league consists of twelve teams, each qualified through their domestic competition, similar to the format of the UEFA Champions League. The league is a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) with sponsorship from Nike, Air Jordan and Pepsi. Its inaugural season started with the qualifying rounds in October 2019 and the regular season in May 2021. The competition replaces FIBA's Africa Basketball League as the continent's top-tier league. BAL president, Amadou Gallo Fall, announced at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game Africa Luncheon in Chicago, that the season will tip off on 13 March. The 2024 NBBF Premier League was the 23rd season of the NBBF Premier League, the top-flight basketball league in Nigeria organized by the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). The season began on 25 October 2024 and ended 19 November 2024. The Rivers Hoopers were the defending champions, and successfully defended their title as they won their sixth championship, defeating Hoops & Read in the final. Rivers Hoopers is a Nigerian basketball team based in Port Harcourt, Rivers. The team plays in the Nigerian Premier League. Established in 2009 as Royal Hoopers, the team has played in the Premier League since its inception. Hoopers have won the national championship four times, with titles in 2011, 2012, 2019 and 2021. The 2024 RBL season was the 3rd season of the Rwanda Basketball League under its current name, while the top-level competition has been organised by the FERWABA for a longer time. The regular season began on 9 February and ended on 23 August 2024. The playoffs began on 30 August and ended on 23 September 2024. APR won its record-extending fifteenth national title after their finals win over Patriots. Team changes Regular season The number of teams in the regular season was decreased from twelve to ten. The 2024 Nationale 1 (N1) season was the 57th season of the Nationale 1 (NM1), the top-tier basketball league for men's teams in Senegal. AS Douanes were the defending champions, but were eliminated in the semi-finals. ASCVD won their first national championship, after defeating DUC in the final. As champions, they qualified directly for the 2025 BAL season. Teams Guédiawaye Academy and USPA were promoted. UCAD and ASFA were relegated to the Division 2 following their results in the 2022 season. The 2022 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 2, was the second season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 2 March 2022 and ended with the Finals on 28 May 2022. The group phase was played in the Dakar Arena in Dakar and the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in Cairo. The playoffs and finals were played in the BK Arena in Kigali for a second year in a row. Tunisian club US Monastir won the finals to win its first-ever BAL title, after defeating Angolan club Petro de Luanda in the 2022 BAL Finals.
