Atiqul Islam
Atiqul Islam (; born 1 July 1961) is a Bangladeshi politician, businessman and the former Mayor of North Dhaka. He was elected in the position in the by-election held on 28 February 2019 and took oath on 7 March. Earlier, he served as the President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) during 2013–14. Early life Atiqul Islam was born on 1 July 1961 at Saidpur of Nilphamari district to Momtajuddin Ahmed and Majeda Khatun. His hometown is at Daudkandi Upazila (currently Titas Upazila) of Comilla and at the time of his birth, his father was posted at Saidpur. He is the youngest among his 11 siblings. He completed his secondary and higher secondary education from BAF Shaheen College Dhaka. Mufazzal Haider Chaudhury
Mufazzal Haider Chaudhury (22 July 1926 – 14 December 1971) was a prominent Bengali essayist, prized scholar of Bengali literature, educator and linguist of the Bengali language. Early life and education Born in Khalishpur village, in Noakhali in East Bengal to Bazlur Rahman Chaudhury and Mahfuza Khatun, Chaudhury lost his father when he was nine. Facing financial difficulties, his mother arranged for his education at the Ahmediya High English School, from where he passed his matriculation examination securing fourth place under the University of Calcutta. After passing his intermediate from the Dhaka College, he went to study Bengali honors at the Scottish Church College, in Kolkata. Cyclone Bulbul
Severe Tropical Storm Matmo and Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Bulbul () (JTWC designation: ''23W'') were a pair of destructive tropical cyclones that tracked in the Western Pacific Ocean and the North Indian Ocean in October and November 2019 respectively, killing 43 people and inflicting about US$3.537 billion in damage. Matmo was the 41st tropical depression and the 22nd named storm of the 2019 Pacific typhoon season, while Bulbul was the 9th depression and the 7th named storm of the 2019 North Indian Ocean cyclone season. The cyclone formed on October 28 in the South China Sea and intensified into Tropical Storm ''Matmo'', as named by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). Chhatra League
Bangladesh Chhatra League, simply Chhatra League (), is the student wing of the political party, Bangladesh Awami League, founded by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 4 January 1948. The organisation is banned and listed as a terrorist organisation in Bangladesh. BCL has been repeatedly accused of committing mass violence including torture, extortion, forced prostitution, killings to instill fear. 2019 Dengue Outbreak In Bangladesh
The 2019 dengue outbreak in Bangladesh is a nationwide occurrence of dengue fever in Bangladesh that began primarily in April 2019 and is still ongoing. According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 14 people have died and 19,513 people have been affected as of 1 August 2019, majority of whom are children. Although other sources are reporting the death toll has already passed 50. On 1 August 2019, DGHS confirmed the outbreak affecting all districts of the country. Additionally, it reported 1,712 newly infected patients in the preceding 24 hours which is also the largest number of infected people on record in a single day. According to official source, roughly 71 more people are being infected in dengue fever every hour. FR Tower Fire
On 28 March 2019, the FR Tower Fire broke out on the eighth floor of the 22-storey FR Tower in the commercial Banani area of Dhaka, Bangladesh around 1:00 pm BST. The fire claimed 25 lives and more than 70 people were injured. Duronto TV and Radio Today shut down their transmissions when the fire broke out because both of their offices were situated adjacent to the FR tower. Casualties As of 28 March, the death toll was estimated to be at least 26. Among the dead was a Sri Lankan citizen who fell to his death while escaping the fire. In addition, at least 70 people were injured and transported to hospitals with severe burns and lung damage.
